Synopsis: Sometimes Rest in Peace isn't an option...
Kacie Ramsey sees ghosts—and it's ruining her life. Her mother left, her father blames her, and no matter how hard she tries, she can't keep the ghosts away. Now a new power has emerged. Nightly visions of grisly murders and a relentless predator draw her to the brink of insanity.
When the phantom appears at a party, Kacie's longtime crush, Logan, saves her. He invites her to join the Orion Circle, a group of supernatural hunters with chapters in schools all over the country. Through the Circle, Kacie learns to embrace her spiritual powers, and for the first time in her life she feels in control rather than a victim.
But the Foxblood Demon will not give up so easily. A demented serial killer in life who trapped the souls of the thirteen children he murdered, imprisoning them within the walls of his mansion. Now in death, he plots his return while drawing power from the pure souls of the children. He recognizes something in Kacie he's never seen before—a medium powerful enough to provide a vessel for his tainted soul.
Kacie can't ignore the tortured souls of the children crying out to her every night. With Logan at her side, she will fight the Foxblood Demon. But can they banish this powerful phantom, or will Kacie lose not only her body, but her eternal soul to the monster.
I immediately became obsessed with this book. I read this book within a day and I don't mind the lack of sleep from it. I mean, this book was genuinely creepy and yet the MC didn't piss me off. Maybe it was because she wasn't a complete stubborn mule towards her boyfriend.
As a strong physic medium, she fights next to her boyfriend. Doesn't cower. Doesn't scream for help. She actually fights. The Foxblood Demon wants her but she's going to fight to the end to not allow that to happen.
There is an undeniable attraction between Kacie and Logan. He tells her that she isn't alone with her psychic powers and their connection just makes them a hell of a lot stronger when facing the worst of the worst. You learn more and more about Kacie and how she struggled with her powers and how her family refused to accept it.
Her mother disowned her and not her brother, all because she couldn't handle her daughter being just like her. Yeah, you heard me right. I don't see why Kacie shouldn't hate her mother for doing that to her. Especially after traumatic ghost. She gains the help of several Native American chiefs and eventually crosses that ghost over. He was a creepy mother fucker and I was so relieved once he was gone.
NOW, HERE COMES THE RATING! DRUMROLL PLEASE!
I rate this book a solid 3.9 out of 5 stars and I loved this book. It was new. It was fresh. It is definitely something I would gift myself in paperback.
Blog you later, awesome book nerds.
Amy, I'm so happy you enjoyed Tortured Souls! I love writing about the Orion Circle :)
ReplyDeleteIt was amazing! Definitely something worth keeping in a library of paper books, not e books. Will there be more adventures?
