The 5th Wave - Rick Yancey (The 5th Wave #1)

Sorry fellow book lovers that I haven't been behind the computer for a while. However, do I have something in store for you.

There are so many POV's throughout this book it is almost hard to keep up with but it is so thrilling. There's Zombie, there's Sammy, there's Cassie for Cassiopeia, and there's Evan Walker.

I haven't finished this book yet but 50 more pages to go and plus I needed to upload this to you guys because I am way to excited for everyone else to read this book as well. Now it might seem like it amounts to much but I absolutely fell in love with it because of how it blew my mind and out me on a rollercoaster of emotions.

Evan Walker claims to be human but is he? Can you trust anyone? Wait for my update tonight, everyone.

Update:

"Step One: the orderly...Step Two: the bathroom...Step Three: wet willy..."

I just about died when I read this line because of course it will shock just about anyone if you give them a wet willy. Trust me, I have tried.

Okay, so this book is perfect for those with the tastes for corruption and apocalypse styled novels. No, not zombie status but close enough. But this book is a beautiful in it's own way. Strangely, has a twist of forbidden love in it and I can sense a love triangle in the making. 

Now, you might groan at the fact that there is a love triangle but it is nothing like Twilight and their sappy romances but more or less like The Hunger Games because it is two different sides of the same coin. If that makes sense. 

I recommend this book to everyone of all ages because there are no graphic scenes romantically or otherwise. It is truly a tragic love story. I rate this book a solid 5 out 5 stars even if it took me a while to finish.

Pretties - Scott Westerfeld (Uglies #2)

So if I can find someone to talk about books that I have read or excited to read, my excitement levels go out of the roof because they can actually relate to what I am saying. I am such a book nerd and most of my analogies come from books that I have read.

Well this girl that was in one of my courses related to me about the book Pretties - Scott Westerfeld because she saw that I was reading it for my blog. Pretty exciting to me.

Synopsis: Tally has finally become pretty. Now her looks are beyond perfect, her clothes are awesome, her boyfriend is totally hot, and she's completely popular. It's everything she's ever wanted.

But beneath all the fun -- the nonstop parties, the high-tech luxury, the total freedom -- is a nagging sense that something's wrong. Something important. Then a message from Tally's ugly past arrives. Reading it, Tally remembers what's wrong with pretty life, and the fun stops cold.

Now she has to choose between fighting to forget what she knows and fighting for her life -- because the authorities don't intend to let anyone with this information survive.

Let me just say this, even if Tally didn't mean to turn her friends from the Smokies in, she should have realized there was something sneaky about the Special Circumstances. So now she's a pretty. Now what?

Woah, wait, she has a boyfriend now? Is it David or someone else? Well you will have to read to learn about that question. But something is nagging at her because it something fighting their way to the surface of her mind. Someone from her past is here at a party and they are here to ruin her pretty life, or so she thinks. 

I am so infatuated with this book that there are no words other than to read it. It is suspenseful, witty, and a hint of romance. Maybe from friend betrayal here and there. 

So i would rate this book a solid 4 out of 5 because there are points where Westerfeld doesn't develop the characters or why Tally starts to become dependent on men that she meets.

Valkyrie Rising - Ingrid Paulson

Oh man, I do not even know where to begin with this book. I have always been deeply interested in mythology, mainly Greek mythology ever since Aimeé Carter's The Goddess Test series came out. I have been writing a paper on this, about how the term 'mythology' should be abandoned because it allows us to write things off as fictional. Well the problem with that is that all of mythology originated somewhere at sometime and eventually people came to terms that it would be used as their religion. As the cultures began to die off, so did their religion and unfortunately, the term has now allowed us to write these as irrelevant. 

So after that rant, onto the book. I didn't even think of Norse folklore before and this is where the book takes place. Little ol' Ellie just wants to fit in, like her brother who seemed to naturally fit in with his good looks, charming personality, protective demeanor, and captain of both the soccer and lacrosse team. Who wouldn't be popular if they were the triple threat? Well Ellie has been stuck in his shadow and the only people who seem to notice her are her brother, for a good five seconds or so, and his flirtatious man-whore best friend who seems to have his eyes on a new prize. 

Summer is coming up and Ellie/Elsa goes to Norway to visit her grandmother and to brush up on her heritage. As you can tell as you read the book that she takes on the side of her dad's side or her grandmother's side. Not even for a day there, she meets a boy on the pier, without her protective brother's watchful eye, who says yes to the boy when he asks her out. College boy that is handsome, smart, funny, and nice just spells trouble, right? Well after she goes out with him, she feels a little strange since he almost got kidnapped and it was right in front of her eyes. Why didn't anyone else see it except her? Graham comes to Norway with Tuck, the best friend, for two weeks. Second day there and not only is Graham gone missing but so has Kjell after a couple more dates with her and she is the number one suspect since she was the last to see them. What happens next?

Read the book and you'll find out. I'll rate this a solid 3.5 stars out of 5 because I felt like the author developed the book plot way to fast although it was quite amusing. Paulson did an awesome job of capturing my interest with the Valkyries and Norse folklore.

Uglies - Scott Westerfeld (Uglies #1)

Synopsis: Everybody gets to be supermodel gorgeous. What could be wrong with that? 

Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can't wait. Not for her license - for turning pretty. In Tally's world, your sixteenth birthday brings an operation that turns you from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. In just a few weeks Tally will be there.

But Tally's new friend Shay isn't sure she wants to be pretty. She'd rather risk life on the outside. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world and it isn't very pretty. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she can imagine: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. 

The choice Tally makes changes her world forever... 

Scott Westefeld has been one of my absolute favorite authors since I was in middle school. When I found The Uglies series, I was absolutely enthralled to read the series again. There are some innuendos that I didn't understand when I was younger but now it just makes me chuckle along the way. Although, when i was little, I knew little about the romance between Tally and another character that you'll meet along the way. Little hint: the Rebel leader. 

Now in this novel, it is all futuristic and a thriller with the cruel-looking Pretties.

People are separated into two groups: the Pretties and the Uglies. Naturally, everyone wants to be a pretty but Shay, Tally's new friend, tells her about a rebel group known as the Smokies. They are illusive and can only find them if you know a friend that went there.

But when Shay runs off without her but only leaves her a note, Tally is contacted by Special Circumstances to bring Shay back. To bring them all back. Will Tally break her promise to Shay and tell them all about the Smokies or will she join the rebel group.

Would I recommend reading this book for any age? Yes, absolutely, si, always. Scott Westerfeld is pretty great and this book definitely deserves the title of The New York Bestselling Series. I am also in love with the new cover art that was selected for these series. 

Inescapable - Nancy Mehl

When it becomes painfully clear that the danger has followed Lizzie to Kingdom, suspicions and tensions run high, and she no longer knows who to trust. With her life and the lives of those she loves at risk, Lizzie will have to run one last time--to a Father whose love is inescapable.

So I started to read this book with a closed off mind. The back seemed unappealing to me other than the fact that Lizzie Engel was used to running away.

What was she running away from? Who knows but all we do know is that she is running away again. There is a character in the book that she sees often but no one ever seems so it made me think that it is all in her head. 

This book is also very Puritan/Christian like. What I mean by that is that these are the olden time Christians where if you didn't go to church and didn't stick with the old times, you were automatically shunned. So when Charity, her daughter, gets introduced to the audience, you are already know, teenage pregnancy at such a young age... Blah, blah, blah... And so on. 

I did like the book in a way but I would have to rate this book a 3.5/5 stars for what it counts because Lizzie Engel's character did not develop all the way. I thought there was much potential that was lost.

The Age of Adaline (Movie Review)

Sorry for my lack of posting on my blog. It turns out, my professors are all conspirators and want to schedule their exams on the same date. So there's the fun in that. Well to make up for it, I want to post something every Wednesday and Friday, if at all possible. So here is my Wednesday post.

Synospsis:

Words can only explain so much how perfect Blake Lively is. How is it possible that some people are more genetically blessed than others. I mean look... She's had her baby but she has a body like she has never had a child. What is her workout routine?!

Anyways, Blake Lively is the perfect woman for the role of Adaline. She hasn't aged a day since her days in Gossip Girl as SVDW or Serena Van Der Woodsen. Get the irony?

So I just want to summarize it. If you do not like romance movies where the whole theme is, "Love is Timeless", don't watch it because this is an absolutely romance/chick-flick movie. So if your significant other pissed you off and they hate this genre and you want to get back at them, take them to go see this.

Blake Lively is just an amazing actress and I give this movie a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars if my opinion matters at all.

Captive - Aimeé Carter (The Blackcoat Rebellion #2)

Let's say we are playing a game of checkers. If you were able to capture the queen, would you sacrifice a pawn? In all games, you get rid of the weakling of the game and that is exactly what Knox, Lila's fiancée or ex-fiancée does to Kitty to keep her away from the love of her life. 

But she can't tell anyone that the boy that they pulled her away from was the love of her life or else they would use him against her. Also she was Masked after all into Lila's perfect face and body. Knox keeps losing her temper with Kitty and keeps calling her a pawn. Why would anyone want to put up with that? Well she doesn't and she pretty flips tables to get to Benji, to pull him away from the life that she dragged him into. But by the time they packed their bags and were about to leave, they get caught. Fuck, fuck, fuckity, fuck. 

You have to read the rest to understand what happens next but I would most definitely recommend Captive - Aimeé Carter to get an inside look through Kitty's eyes of Elsewhere. We got a glimpse of it in the first novel but that was just a heartbreaking part. 

Will Benji and Kitty be together again, away and at their lake? Or will death do them apart. 

I rate this a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

Hush, hush Saga - Becca Fitzpatrick

Synopsis for Hush, hush:

For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life.

Synopsis for Crescendo:

Nora Grey's life is still far from perfect. Surviving an attempt on her life wasn't pleasant, but at least she got a guardian angel out of it. A mysterious, magnetic, gorgeous guardian angel. But despite his role in her life, Patch has been acting anything but angelic. He's more elusive than ever (if that's possible) and what's worse, he seems to be spending time with Nora's archenemy, Marcie Millar.

Nora would have hardly noticed Scott Parnell, an old family friend who has moved back to town, if Patch hadn't been acting so distant. Even with Scott's totally infuriating attitude, Nora finds herself drawn to him - despite her lingering feelings that he is hiding something.

If that weren't enough, Nora is haunted by images of her murdered father, and comes to question whether her Nephilim bloodline has anything to do with his death. Desperate to figure out what happened, she puts herself in increasingly dangerous situations to get the answer. But maybe some things are better left buried, because the truth could destroy everything - and everyone - she trusts.

Synopsis for Silence:

Nora Grey can't remember the past five months of her life. After the initial shock of waking up in a cemetery and being told that she has been missing for weeks - with no one knowing where she was or who she was with - she tried to get her life back on track. Go to school, hang out with her best friend, Vee, and dodge mom's creepy new boyfriend.

But there is this voice in the back of her head, an idea that she can almost reach out and touch. Visions of angel wings and unearthly creatures that have nothing to do with the life she knows.

Synopsis for Finale: 

Nora and Patch thought their troubles were behind them. Hank is gone and they should be able to put his ugly vendetta to rest. But in Hank's absence, Nora has become the unwitting head of the Nephilim and must finish what Hank began. Which ultimately means destroying the fallen angels - destroying Patch.

Nora will never let that happen, so she and Patch make a plan: lead everyone to believe they have broken up, and work the system from the inside. Nora will convince the Nephilim that they are making a mistake in fighting the fallen angels, and Patch will find out everything he can from the opposing side. They will end this war before it can even begin.

But the best-laid plans often go awry. Nora is put through the paces in her new role and finds herself drawn to an addictive power she never anticipated.

As the battle lines are drawn, Nora and Patch must confront the differences that have always been between them and either choose to ignore them or let them destroy the love they have always fought for.

The Hush, hush Saga by Becca Fitzpatrick is a chilling tale in the main protagonists view. Her name is Nora Grey and I can tell you that you will fall in love with her right away with her snarky attitude towards guys. That is until she meets Patch. She is dangerously coming close to falling for someone she knows she should steer away from but his mysteriousness draws her in immediately along with all of the danger that comes with him. Follow Fitzpatrick through the journey of Nora Grey's life. 

Upcoming book reviews that I will hopefully be doing will be Beckon Me - Cindy Thomas, Captive - Aimée Carter, and Twist - Karen Akins. I bundled these books together because they were so good but I didn't want to spam my blog and readers with four different reviews. I would recommend reading these books if you're in for romance and a thrilling story. 

I rate this a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars as an average of all four books.

Fragile Spirits - Mary Lindsey (Souls #2)

In the first book, Shattered Souls by Mary Lindsey, we were introduced to a new character near the end. No spoilers, I promise. But this character is a new Protector and they are getting assigned their first Speaker. But this girl is the total opposite of him from a first glance. 

When you don't get along with someone, romantically, friendship, or familial, you tend to bicker it out until one party gets tired and gives it up. Throughout the book, this happens constantly but it isn't the kind of arguing where it makes you want to cry in a corner but the kind where it makes you smile and laugh, just a little bit.

Now since the characters have been introduced in the synopsis, I think that Paul and Vivienne's storyline goes along the lines of Lenzi and Alden's, however, just from the male's perspective. Both Lenzi and Vivienne are snarky and confident in their powers once they get introduced to them while Alden and Paul are both protective [obviously] and lovers of their Speakers. They also help their partners get used to the idea of their powers and help them use it. Also another character from the pervious novel will show up and make you want to flip tables in the short run.

In the next book, if there will be one, I predict it will be about Race and Maddy and how their relationship developed since the beginning of time, maybe show a little snippet of why Race and his first partner never got along. 

I really liked this book and I don't know if it is because of the paranormal activities in the series, but it is definitely a good read.

Shattered Souls - Mary Lindsey (Souls #1)

Lenzi is a normal girl or so she thought. She is dating a hot college guy who is a musician just like her and her father. Someone that she could relate too. But then Alden, the sexy guy who claims that he was born to be her Protector because she is a Speaker. Someone who talks to the dead. Or the dead talks to her. He also claims that they have known each other in past lives. Say what? 

Hot but a little crazy Alden drives Lenzi crazy. Her boyfriend as well who starts to show his jealous side as Alden enters her life and steals the affection of Lenzi from him.

As a single reviewer, I absolutely loved this thrilling book. There is a forbidden romance, almost re-telling the story of Romeo and Juliet with the exception of their lives of course. However, I think that Lindsey rushed through the plot and did not allow it to develop. It didn't make the book worse or anything but if it was broken up into other series, I would have loved it even more. If anyone is looking a for a action-seeking novel with a hint of thrilling and yet forbidden romance, this is the book for you. It is definitely redirected towards the Young Adult audience because it has no scenes in it where it makes the readers hormones go all jumpy but it definitely has its AWWW moments, if you get what I mean.

I was going to write a review about Twist - Karen Akins, which came out today for those who did not know already from my earlier posts but unfortunately, I will have to wait to write that until I am able to buy it. 

Anyways, I am reading the second book as of now and I will be posting a review in a couple days.
