ARC: Dirty Sexy Saint - Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde (Dirty Sexy #1) [Promotion & Review]

Published Date: January 19, 2016
Genre: New Adult
Synopsis: New York Times bestselling authors Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde bring you a dirty, sexy, smoking hot SERIES featuring three bad boy brothers bonded by shocking secrets and their damaged past. Sinful, addicting, and unapologetically alpha, these men are every woman’s erotic daydream ... And your ultimate dirty fantasy.

Are you ready to get Dirty Sexy with a Saint?

Clay Kincaid knows he's more a sinner than a saint. Especially when it comes to women. With a rough and damaged past that has left him jaded, he doesn't do committed relationships. But he does like sex—the hotter and harder, the better. He likes it fast and filthy, which is why he refuses to even touch someone as sweet and guileless as Samantha Jamieson. Until he discovers that she likes it just as down and dirty as he does. Let the sinning begin . . .

DIRTY SEXY INKED AND DIRTY SEXY CUFFED coming in 2016!

All books in the DIRTY SEXY Series are full-length novels with no cliffhangers!

First off, I would like to say, happy book birthday to the Dirty Sexy series and I cannot wait to read the next two, needless to say.

Oh wow, this was my first book from Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde and they did not disappoint. I knew what I was getting myself into with the Kincaid brothers. They are all ultimately heart-breaking and swoon worthy.

I know that after the first Kincaid brothers, I don't think that I could ever go back. I mean, I think that I teared up as I found out more of Clay because of how he is ultimately the protector of the family ever since they were little.

This book made my night and rest of my morning because this is a one-day read. Simple, sexy, and short. That's all you needed from this book. Other than the fact that Samantha Jamieson can definitely get on your nerves throughout this entire book, you learn to tolerate her because of the fact that Clay looks at her with such loving eyes. You know like how the picture from the Tangled movie where Flynn looks at Rapunzel when they are watching the lantern lights and it's just full of love? Yeah, that's how I felt about this book and the couple.

The moments are heartfelt and just beautiful and the things that they sacrifice for each other is just amazing. I definitely have unrealistic expectations as to how love and relationships should work out but I am completely fine with that.

Now personally, I think there were parts that didn't need to be in there but again, not my book and it's not my vision. The ending was a bit funky is all but something that I can work with even though it completely contradicted the entire story.

So again, if you want a good read that will take you a couple hours maximum, this book is definitely for you especially if you love swoon worthy boys and heart breaking stories. I rate this a 4 out of 5 stars.

A Shade of Blood - Bella Forrest (Shade of Vampire #2)

Published Date: April 8, 2013
Genre: Romance
Synopsis: In A Shade Of Blood, Bella Forrest transports you deeper into a unique, enthralling and beautifully sensitive story. Prepare to be lost in its pages…

When Sofia Claremont was kidnapped to a sunless island, uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet, she believed she’d forever be a captive of its dark ruler, Derek Novak.

Now, after months of surviving an endless night, the morning sun may soon rise again for Sofia. Something has possessed Derek’s heart and he offers her a gift no human slave has ever been given in the history of his cursed island: escape.

High school, prom and a chance to move on with her life now await her.

But will she be able to forget the horrors that steal her sleep away at night? … and the feelings that haunt her for that tormented prince of darkness?

Okay, I don't even know where to start with this book. Maybe I should have stopped at the first book and called it quits then and there. Okay, I was desperate to continue the book and see where it led me on The Shade. The sunless island.

I don't know who I am more annoyed with. Ben or Derek. Take your pick.

I choose Ben.

Ben's annoying qualities:
1. You only like Sofia because she was getting pulled away from you.
2. Because Derek Novak likes her.
3. Your eyes were suddenly opened.
4. Your cockiness.
5. You're the classic jock.
6. You think with your penis and not your mind.

Derek's annoying qualities:
1. You're supposedly different.
2. You're infatuated. Not in love. Difference.
3. You want a human connection.
4. You're broody as hell.

This book wasn't nearly as great as the first book was and well, I was excited to read the second one. But I am sure it had me going, "WTF" majority of the time. Why do I put myself through that... I like the first book and then I impulse buy. Sorry, can I have my money back please?

You want an honest review? The first book could've and should've stayed a standalone. The happily ever after scenario. Fair enough, right? That's all someone could ask for. At first, I really liked Sofia because she gave Derek a different view in life. She made him into a whole new person. A better person. You know? You've heard the saying, "oh they changed each other for the better", that's what Derek and Sofia did for each other.

But then, of course, Ben comes into the picture and makes this a wacked out love triangle, or I guess rectangle because of Lucas's freaking obsession with her. But at the end of the book, I am pretty sure that this book is going to be this wacked out love freaking polygon. I can't even describe it.

Oh, did I mention that Sofia slightly annoyed me too?
1. You left Derek.
2. You forgot about Derek.
3. You make me want to toss my Kindle across the room.
4. You run into the arms of Ben.
5. You run back into the arms of Derek.

Like what? You're becoming someone that I don't like. When she did run back into the arms of Derek, she had to be knocked out again. Wait what?

"He took my bag and sheepishly smiled at me as he lifted a syringe to my neck. 'You know the drill.'
I rolled my eyes. 'Fine'...As the sedative lured me to unconsciousness, I allowed myself a small smile. It felt like I was about to go home."

Hold on... What? I mean, I found this completely contradictory since Vivienne already gave Sofia her memories henceforth, she knows how to get there... Why would she need a freaking sedative, yet again.

Now personally, I think I am going to continue the series because I have this weird obsession to continue the books even though one disappointed me. The rating for this particular novel is a 2 out of 5 stars.

F*CK Love - Tarryn Fisher

Published Date: January 1, 2016
Genre: Romance
Synopsis: Helena Conway has fallen in love.
Unwillingly. Unwittingly.
But not unprovoked.
Kit Isley is everything she’s not—unstructured, untethered,
and not even a little bit careful.
It could all be so beautiful … if he wasn’t dating her best friend.
Helena must defy her heart, do the right thing, and think of others.
Until she doesn’t.

HOLY SHITE, TARRYN FISHER.

What have you done?! You're making me feel with this book. Tear out my heart, stomp on it, run over it with a 4 Wheel Drive, and try to surgically place it back into me with no anesthetic and me being fully awake with it.

Okay, needless to say. This was my first book ever by Tarryn Fisher and she completely stole my heart away. She took my virginity and she wasn't gentle enough. I want more of Tarryn Fisher and I am kind of obsessed with her style.

I'm tempted to read the one where Colleen and Tarryn worked on together because the two of them together are absolutely hilarious and I don't think that my sides could handle it from laughing. Now personally, I really love her writing.

Why?
1. She has no filter.
2. She used a bunch of hashtags.
3. Her romances seem epic.
4. Muslim Black.
5. Her characters feel so real to me.
6. She tore my heart to pieces but tried to mend it back together.

Damn it all. Time to add Kit Isley to my book boyfriends list as well as Muslim Black because let's face it, they are hot. Well, in my mind they are.

This is a book that you can not not 1-click. So, pretty much, I'm saying buy the crap out of this book because you definitely won't be disappointed. I usually don't do this but here is my rating... DRUMROLL PLEASE! 5 stars out of 5!

F*CK Love except when it comes to this book. So blog you later, awesome book nerds.

Shadowhunters: "The Mortal Cup" (Ep. 1)

Release Date: January 12, 2015
OH MY GOSH, IT FINALLY CAME AND IT'S FINALLY HAPPENED!
As you can see, I was geeking out.
But okay, I'll be honest, they definitely could have picked a better Jace Herondale... He just doesn't fit my standards. But he is attractive in his own way. In all reality, I think that Shadowhunters couldn't be farther from the books. They inserted the scenes in places where they should have occurred later on.

This show is definitely not the strongest transition between books to tv. It didn't even have a strong transition from book to movie. Which is sad because it was one of the most anticipated shows of the year.

But who am I to decide where the scenes go because don't get me wrong, the show was alright because it somewhat accurately portrayed each of the characters.

Jace: His fascination with Clary.
Clary: Her love of art, family, and friends.
Jocelyn: Her protectiveness.
Luke: His affections.
Simon: His secret affections for Clary, oblivious to other women.
Isabelle: Her rambunctious affections to piss off her parents.
Alec: His animosity towards mundanes.

By the way, I pretty much yelled at my screen the entire time during this whole show because of the fact that everything was a bit off for me. Especially this one part where they completely screwed up the entire process. So WTF.

Clary has turned 18. Adult biologically and genetically, or so she says. But when she turned 18, her whole life turned to shite. She looks clinically insane in her friends eyes. When she meets Jace, the void in her life is filled with the curiosity to know more about him. To navigate this world, she will need the help of Jace, Isabelle, and Alec.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

Recap: Based on the bestselling young adult fantasy book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, Shadowhunters follows Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. Now thrown into the world of demon hunting after her mother is kidnapped, Clary must rely on the mysterious Jace and his fellow Shadowhunters Isabelle and Alec to navigate this new dark world. With her best friend, Simon, in tow, Clary must now live among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves to find answers that could help her find her mother.

Nothing is as it seems, including her close family friend Luke, who knows more than he is letting on, as well as the enigmatic warlock Magnus Bane, who could hold the key to unlocking Clary's past.

Time may have passed, but old feelings are still alive. Find out what happens when the hometown princess comes home and discovers
that her prince isn't as immune to her as she believed.

Review:
Now personally, I am a huge fan of romance books. It gives me unrealistic expectations at how my life is going to turn out. As if some guy would come up to me and sweep me off my feet.

This story had a slow beginning, picked up a little, then slowed back down. I am about 10 chapters through and in all honesty, the book is just not catching my eye. I know that this sounds awful but it is not my idea of romance.

We don't get the background knowledge on Hale and Finn's relationship other than the fact that they loved each other but I guess something deterred them from it but now that Hale is back home, things will eventually lead up to it.

I found it as if it was a love-hate relationship but it was so cliche... I feel bad for saying this but I do not think that I can continue with the story. This is probably a story that I am going to have to stop reading, at least for now.

We'll keep this rating at a 2 out of 5 stars and if I ever get around to reading this again, we will come back with a hopefully better rating.

About Melanie Jayne

I live on a grain farm southeast of Indianapolis, Indiana with my very patient husband of twenty-five years and our two English Mastiffs, Buster Brown and Ginger. I graduated from Indiana University when it was the #1 party school in the country and I took great pride in helping the school achieve that ranking.
I haven't figured out what I want to be when I grow up. I change careers every decade. I have worked in retail, a federal courtroom, travelled across the state closing loans, and behind the scenes in a casino.
I've always had an active imagination so when a good friend suggested that I try writing a book, I thought why not, it should be fun. It has, but I have had to work very hard to learn how to do it. I am so lucky for the outpouring of advice and education from so many in the industry, plus the hand-holding and cheerleading from My Gurls. I also have an incredible Ad-man-istrative Assistant, who tries to keep me under control. He rolls his eyes so much that I worry about a permanent condition.
When I ‘m not working or writing type stuff, I sleep, watch courtroom TV shows, and sports. I was a competitive pro-am ballroom dancer for ten years and I read as many books as I can.
I love to attend Author-Reader Conventions and look forward to meeting you.

Fifteen Years Ago
Hale Cameron looked around the small apartment slowly, trying to memorize every nook and cranny. It was Finn's apartment, but after their engagement, she'd been there almost every night. She'd moved more of her things into the space that Finn had willingly shared. Then, as the preparations for the Glass trial took more and more of Finn's time, she'd stayed over less and less.
"Honey, the clock's ticking. What's left to do?" her dad asked quietly.
"Everything's packed and loaded. I think we're done here," Hale replied as she circled the living room, touching a book on one of the shelves, straightening the antique hourglass that she had given Finn during their first Christmas together.
"I thought there would be more of your stuff here." Hale focused on Jasmine Wayne Benton, her best friend since infancy. Jasmine looked like she wanted to make a run for the door.
"You can go. Thanks for all of your help. I know this puts you in a tough position." Jasmine's fiancé was Finn's best friend. She'd have to explain to him, and therefore Finn, why Hale was leaving. How could she explain what she didn't understand?
Jasmine took a deep breath as she approached Hale. "I just want you to be happy. You could stay, maybe you and Finn could work things out. I don't want you to leave."
Hale hugged her friend. "I have to go, Jazz. I need to get away from this town. I need to figure out who I am and I can't do it here."
"I would help you."
"I know you would, but I need to do this on my own."
"I wish you would wait and talk to Finn. What time is he supposed to get back?"
"The interview with Channel 8 News is being taped at three and after that he has to meet with a reporter from the Indianapolis Star. He'll be tied up for hours. He might not even miss me until tomorrow."
"He should never have taken on the job of representing Doug Glass."
"That was just a part of our many problems. The Glass case will make his career. He's a media star for winning the case. You know how important that is to him."
Jasmine pulled Hale's left hand into hers and gently rubbed the now unadorned ring finger. "He loves you. This is going to kill him."
"I tried and tried to tell him that I was unhappy. He was either too busy to talk, or told me that I should be happy that he treated me like a princess." Bitterness crept into her tone. "I don't want to be that kind of woman."
"You mean like me?" Jasmine turned defensive.
"No, not like you. You're doing what you want, right? You love Izzy. You're going to graduate and teach kids. Have the career you chose. Someday you'll have some kids of your own, run the PTA, and be a great mom. Finn's plan for me is to enjoy our engagement, be pretty, smile, and attend dinners, and then after we marry, stay at home and join charity committees. I would be his accessory. That's not me. I want to be a partner, and I want my voice to be heard. I need to find out who I am so I can have a voice."
"Can't the two of you work this out?"
"Finn wants to give that life to his wife. I don't want it. These past months have been miserable. I can't live like this."
Jasmine started to speak but Hale cut her off. "I'm going to miss you, but I have to go somewhere that my family's name means nothing. Somewhere I'm not judged by my mama's actions or my daddy's money. I've done nothing to earn my place, everything I have comes from family money. I need to figure out who I am and I can't do that here. Plus, there's a part of me that's broken and the only person that can fix me is me."
Hale kissed Jasmine's cheek and gave her one last hug. She watched her best friend walk to the door and leave.

Review: This was one of the best conclusions to a series that I could really ask for.  Holly and Creighton's romance is swoon-worthy because they fight for each other. They fight for what we call love. Sometimes, they run scared and maybe, that's what helped them open up their eyes.

These series could never be a standalone because of how the first two installments ended. It made my heart break every single time... Okay that's a lie, I rolled my eyes at the second one. But in all honesty, Dirty Together was probably the cutest and most swoon-worthy romances.

I am sad to see these series go. I like a quick read that will drive me insane. Meghan March broke all romance scales for me and these were the first books that I ever read from her. She's honestly, one of the nicest people that you can chat with and appreciates when you can either provide constructive criticism or appreciation for her books.

Something in this book that squeezed my heart was when Crey asked Holly to never run away from him again but rather to him. He wanted to work things out with her and that's all a relationship needs. Comprise and trust.  That and a lot of great sex with these books.

I personally love these series because it truly does make an amazing romance and how they are together makes my heart melt. Maybe I am just in a mood because Valentine's is coming up soon and romance novels always get me around this time of the year. More now than ever.

I rate this book a solid 4 out of 5 and I couldn't find a better romance read of how people fight for their love instead of shying away from it. So, with that said, I will blog you later, awesome book nerds.

On a side note, regarding the TV show reviews and summaries: I will be posting them every Saturday, if possible.

Only one problem.

She wouldn't tell me her name or her number when she disappeared from the hotel room after the hottest fucking night of my life.

Now I've had a taste of unicorn pussy–the sweetest, rarest of all pussy–and I need it again.

So what's an asshole to do?

Tethered Bond - Emma Hart (Holly Woods Files #3)

Published Date: November 13, 2015
Genre: Romance
Synopsis: Detective Drake Nash: hot, alpha, bossy, and… mine.

Now, if someone could tell his ex that... I don’t care if the summer fayre is coming to Holly Woods and she’s on the planning committee. What I do care about is sugar-filled food, bright lights, late nights… and danger. The type that won’t come in the form of Nonna’s new cantankerous British parrot, Gio. (Please see the damage done to Mom’s new curtains.)

Unfortunately, when the danger comes, it comes in the form of something Holly Woods has never seen. The town is rocked to its core, and once again, I’m in danger. Only this time, it isn’t because of my clients—this time, I’m in danger because of who I am… Because of my heritage.

And despite the HWPD’s best efforts, the bodies keep on piling up.

Drake’s determined to protect me. I’m determined that I can do it myself.

Danger. Mystery. Darkness. Malice.

It’ll be a miracle if any of us make it out of this with guns unfired, cupcakes still frosted, and hearts intact…

OK. Let's get started. First off, ever since I met Noelle Bond through Emma Hart and each of these cases and files get even more gruesome than the previous. In all honesty, although it faces some gruesome stuff that I hope to never have to encounter. Noel has the right to be paranoid and in all honesty, when I started the series, I wanted to be Noelle. Now? Not so much.

But in all honesty, you kind of have to fall in love with Drake and Noelle. You thought that you got twisted up in this book but then, bam. Emma Hart hits us with it again and we got tangled up in their relationship as it grows continuously. Now, we are forever tethered to them.

I am too nasty to wait for the 4th installment so can we put a rush on it? Please and thank you. What new horror stories will Drake and Noelle have to endure. What will they overcome again? I am just anticipating on my toes for you to come back with more.

This story almost made me want to cry and run back to my old religion because I wanted to pray to something or someone. Satanists scare the heebie jeebies out of me and the fact that they were what were portrayed, I wanted to crawl into a corner and cry. Drake Nash, hold me please! Even Brody Bond can hold me. Trent and Gavin are completely taken but then again so is Drake Nash... He's an acceptation.

You know what Emma should do? Write a book from Drake's perspective. Oh, the feels. Please do this. I don't know if you are reading this but I want this so much. Filled with action, romance, and angst, it's got me feeling stuff that you shouldn't be feeling. Like crying out of happiness.

Now people, if you want to add onto your book boyfriends or girlfriends, this the series to fall for and you cannot deny the satisfaction from finishing this book. Or this series. I mean, it's just satisfaction when you read a book but the romance is overbearing and you want to gag at it. I love romance stories but this more or less focuses on how two people, despite their differences, come together to solve the shit out of these cases.

More or less, so far, what I have realized is that Noelle likes danger. She acts like danger finds her but as a private investigator, she finds herself sticking her noses in places she knows shouldn't be there but cannot resist. Sorry, I am laughing while typing that last sentence because it honestly, kind of, sort of, reminds me of myself.

Noelle has no filter and I think that is what made me fall in love with her even more and tolerate her as a MC... Though I would have preferred it be Drake. But who's listening to me anyways. I rate this book a good 4.4 out of 5 stars and Emma's writing hasn't disappointed me yet. Let's see where 2016 takes her for the Holly Woods Files.
