When Darkness Falls - Marina Anderson

When Darkness Falls by Marina Anderson

Publication Date: December 3, 2015
Genre: Romance/Mystery

Blurb

A love affair that even time couldn't destroy.
When Abby and Dominic move into the beautiful Dower Cottage it seems like a dream come true. But beneath its chocolate box exterior, the cottage holds a terrible secret, and unknown to her; Abby holds the key to rewriting a terrible wrong from the past. Soon she becomes obsessed by the dark stranger whose spirit is trapped in the attic, a man who teaches her more about herself and new pathways to ecstasy than she had ever imagined possible, until she is lost in his world of dark pleasures and his overpowering need for her. As their love grows, Dominic fights desperately to keep his wife, and Abby is caught between her husband and her charismatic, jealous lover from the past. But their mutual obsession will take her to the edge of insanity as she discovers what her stranger needs from her to ensure they are the ones to be together forever.

Review: Okay, I definitely wasn't expecting this book. Not in a bad way at all. I actually found this book riveting with a sense of a historical romance with mystery within. I loved every single moment of this book and as Dominic races against time to win back the love of his wife.

His sunny wife is slowly disappearing within herself as the darkness consumes her. Will she be able overcome it or will it be the end of her?

The book had a great storyline. However, it was starting to get a bit repetitive and it starts to get boring. It was an amazing book ultimately but as it neared its end, it met its end. I liked the thought process that went into this book and the clever ideas. Like I said, I really liked how fast she was changed after falling into the pits of darkness because of the fact that this was a fast-paced book.

However, it could have been a lot better when it came down to the ending.

This was the first book that I ever read by Marina and it surely won't be the last because if all of her books are like this, I'm sure the endings will slowly get better. Right?

One can only dream.

Anyways, this book hints at BDSM and so if you're squeamish, get over it and read this book. It was fast, dark, and dirty. I liked it. >insert evil smiling face here< But hey, I think that I will go ahead and rate this a good 4 out of 5 stars.

Blog you later, awesome book nerds.

He'd lost track of time since the last couple had left. It was hard to tell when time to him was counted in centuries. So many years, and so many disappointments, but still he waited. One day she would return, he was sure of it. One day she would find him again, and then he would be able to put things right. Only then would he finally be free. He also needed her to know that she'd been the only woman he'd truly loved, and what had happened had left him a broken man. Afterwards there had been no joy in anything in life, nor any peace in death.
His line of thought was interrupted by the sound of a heavy lorry on the road outside the cottage. He moved swiftly to the small window that looked out over the front garden and saw a removal van turn slowly into the drive. His brown eyes, so dark they looked almost black, watched keenly as he waited for the occupants of the following car to get out.
The driver got out first, a very tall, broad shouldered man, in his late twenties he thought, with a mop of blond hair, dressed in the scruffy clothes so favoured by younger men now. But the man was of no interest to him. It was the woman he wanted to see. As the passenger door opened he realised that he was holding his breath, hoping, praying that at last, this time, it would be her.
She was holding one hand up to shield her eyes from the bright summer sunlight, and her long chestnut hair fell to her waist in the tight curls he remembered so well. His fingers moved as he remembered the way her hair had felt when he'd run his fingers through it, and how she'd watched him, half-warily and half expectantly as she'd waited silent and obedient for him to take charge.
Next to the blond man she looked tiny, as small as he'd remembered her, and she was still as slender as a reed, with a tiny waist. She was wearing a pretty floral dress that reached to her ankles, and he realised it was the first time he'd seen her wearing anything other than black and white. It was a shock, but apart from that nothing had changed, and through the ill-fitting window he heard the sound of her laughter, that well remembered sound of delight and excitement that he'd so often coaxed from her, and he knew that finally the wait was over.
Abigail had returned to him.

Voice of Gods - Eleanor Herman (Blood of Gods and Royals #.5)

I am all for Greek Gods and the Greek Life. I have been obsessed with it since Aimeé Carter's Goddess Test series and yet none of them seem to amount to them until I ran into Jennifer L. Armentrout's Covenant series. Now, I am jumping into the Blood of Gods and Royals series by Eleanor Herman.
Published Date: July 15, 2015
Genre: Fantasy/Young Adult/Historical Fiction
Synopsis: As the end of an age approaches, gods whisper horrors, families scheme for power, and one woman may hold the secret to a lost legacy.

At 19, Ada of Caria yearns to take the Snake Blood throne from her mad older siblings—and seeks the help of a young orphaned girl named Helen, the first True Oracle to have walked the earth in more than three hundred years.

Helen may be able to channel the voice of the gods, but she hates her gift, and will do anything to get rid of it—even lie to her best friend, Myrtale, the priestess-princess of Epirus who is destined to marry King Philip II of Macedon even though she loves another. And in the shadows lurks a handsome green-eyed stranger who has more at stake—and more to lose—than anyone could possibly imagine.Amid jealousy and heartbreak, torrid affairs and secret rendezvous, it is spoken by the gods that either Helen or Myrtale —newly named Olympias— will carry the destiny of the known world within her womb.
The prequel to LEGACY OF KINGS, VOICE OF GODS traces the intricate web of love and betrayal that led up to the birth of history’s most powerful leader, Alexander the Great.

I liked the series prequel enough to rate this a good 3.8 stars out of 5 but I only took off 1.2 points due to the fact that it was a confusing plot line.

I really do like Helen because she fights her urges and saddness that she will never be a mother nonetheless a virgin. She kisses men with passion but very reserved so at the end of the book, I was a bit appalled as to what happened to her.

Myrtle/some p-name (I think)/Olympias, you are one evil b%$&@! just because something just not go your way and when you hear of the prophecy, it gave you no right to give direct order considering that you are not his only wife. You only care about yourself and when your 'friend' decided to confide in you, you just would not shut up about your own love life. Yes, you have men falling at your feet. Yes, you are having a child. Yes, you are having an affair. I just do not like you right now. Understand that much.

Ada, okay. Princess. Snake-Blood. Hates her brother and sister's incest marriage. Her favorite brother killed in front of her. I like her but just because again something does not go your way, it gives you no right to be upset considering that certain someone just saved your arse from being burned to oblivion.

K.

Rant is over.
