ARC: Royal Prick - J.L. Beck (A Stepbrother Romance #2)

Published Date: May 22, 2016
Genre: Romance
Synopsis: Royal is a prick.

A sexy as hell prick.

The I need and want to screw you right now kind of prick.

The arrogant, I can do and f*ck whoever I want to type.

He's so self-entitled that I want to punch him in the face, yet kiss him at the same time.

I hate him but at the same time, still want him.

A darkness surrounds him. He has secrets.

For instance where he sneaks off to almost every night.

He'll break my heart and my headboard if let him.

I wanted Royal, but could I handle his darkness?

Royal is definitely the ultimate step-brother that I have read from J.L. Beck's stepbrother series.

He tops them all as he conquers his inner demons with the help of the beautiful Noelle. J.L. Beck broaches on the taboo topic carefully and artistically. I loved every single moment of this because it truly painted this picture into my heart. I felt that this book was well-developed and is definitely something that I cherish throughout my life.

Personally, I can't say how much I enjoyed this book because then I would be giving away spoilers and I don't want to do that because this book is something that you will want either through Kindle Unlimited so that you can read it over and over again or just end up buying it at this bargain price.

Royal is someone that will make you muscles clench. In a good way or a bad way is the question. With a 4 out of 5 stars, I leave you to be the judge of this book.

Blog Tour: Cheerleading Can Be Murder - Carissa Ann Lynch

Published Date: April 5, 2016
Genre: Horror
Synopsis: Getting on the cheerleading squad is hard enough without a psycho on the loose...

For Harrow High freshman Dakota Densford, life should be easy. All she has to worry about is talking to cute boys and remembering her locker combination. But when cheerleading tryouts draw near, she learns the cards are stacked against her—spots on the varsity team are limited. Dakota faces her competition head-on, but when her life is threatened, that takes the competition to a whole new level.

High school is never easy, and freshman year is off to a rough start…

Between Dakota’s uniform being ripped up and masked vandals trashing another girl’s house, everyone is suspect. To complicate matters further, Dakota has a thing for Andy McGraw, but she finds him locking lips with another girl.

The harassment continues, and when Dakota finds suspicious flyers inside her best friend’s locker, she doesn’t know what to think. The principal’s unfeeling, overachiever daughter, Brittani Barlow, will do anything to secure her place on the team. But Dakota’s neighbor, on the other hand, definitely fits the profile of a sociopath.

Cheerleading has become a game of life or death.

This book slightly reminded me of The Dead List by Jennifer L. Armentrout on all levels. Cheerleading Can Be Murder will keep you on your toes and the suspense will be high as you try to figure out who the killer is. Though, I have to say that the book wasn't the thrilling high that I was craving for. Personally, it could have wrung out the chapters to make you wait longer and hate the characters even more.

As you try to figure out the killer, there are hints of a romance as well. Cheesy but cute. You know, it is one of those things. However, the competition is deadly and fierce. Who will get the limited spots on the squad? With a rating of 3.3 out of 5 stars, I will blog you later, awesome book nerds.

Blitz: What Love Is - Emma South

What Love Is
Emma South
Publication date: April 29th 2016
Genres: New Adult, Romance, Suspense

In this epic romance collection that spans eighteen years, the lives of six people will be changed forever.
Ask a million people what love is, and you’ll get a million different answers. None of them are wrong.
What makes a Marine take a bullet for a Hollywood starlet?
What makes a singer with a deep-seated hatred for the wealthy find herself smiling for the first time with a billionaire?
What makes a small-town princess defy death to be reunited with her small-town prince?
The answer is love.
EXCERPT:
I hadn’t been held quite like this ever before, so tenderly yet with an unmistakable undercurrent of lust. I’d had embraces in the past, in another lifetime, that meant all kinds of things. Celebrations, commiserations, I-was-just-jokings, they’d provided so much I didn’t even realize until they were gone.
One minute they were there and then all of a sudden there were no more shoulders to cry on. The shoulder that I should have been able to turn to was busy with other things, things that weren’t me, and that had maybe done the most damage of all. That had hurt a lot.
“Are you going to hurt me too?” I whispered without even consciously willing it, so quietly that I didn’t think Jeremy would hear, but he did.
Jeremy stopped moving and I could feel him looking down at me.
“No. Bea, look at me,” he said.
Jeremy let go with one hand and I felt his finger lightly pushing my chin until I opened my eyes and gazed up at him. Jeremy’s brow furrowed and he shook his head gently.
“No,” he repeated.
I lost myself in his eyes for a second and then raised myself up on the tips of my toes to get closer to him. Jeremy lowered his head and our lips met for the second time in as many days, a much slower kiss that soon had me as oblivious to the outside world as I had been while dancing just a few moments ago.
The song faded away and our lips parted as I heard the sound of a couple people clapping. Our waitress was standing next to the young man who had been moving tables earlier and an older man, the owner perhaps. They were all clapping politely, but only our waitress had a truly dreamy look in her eye.
When we had been interrupted the previous day I had been anxious to get some distance between the two of us as quickly as possible. I didn’t feel that now, I didn’t want to be apart from him even a single inch.

I'm in my thirties and living in New Zealand. About 3 years ago I lost somebody very close to me. I was lucky in a way, I was given enough time to make a promise. My promise was that I would never forget our young and innocent love, and it's a promise I intend to keep.
My writing is a way to help me keep that promise. I've always enjoyed writing but was forced into being 'prudent' and giving myself over to soul-crushing office work for the sake of a steady salary. Recent events forced me to re-evaluate my priorities and I decided to take a chance. I like to put little pieces of 'us' into my writing, from funny conversations we had, to apocalyptic arguments, to that special feeling you get when you hop into bed fully aware that your feet are freezing but your partner doesn't kick you away.
Even though these things are set in fictional worlds and attached to fictional characters, in a way it feels like I'm doing something that will make our love live forever. If somebody reads one of my stories and likes a joke or sheds a tear, then our love has lived on, and I thank any readers I might have for that.

On sale for 99c during the tour only!

Review: This book was a well-written book. G.K. DeRosa captures the fantasy of mythological creatures by putting a definite mind whirling spin on her characters. DeRosa cleverly combines The Vampire Diaries with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Though not an original storyline, she makes the story work together. You will feel sympathy for Celeste because all she wanted was to have a normal life with normal friends. That is, until she runs into the new brothers in town. Literally.
Though as aforementioned, it wasn't an original story and I had a hard time getting through the middle, the plot was meticulous and it was well developed. I pushed through this book because it was a cute young adult book. It captures how rebellious kids can be when restrained and confined into a narrow box.
High school Celeste will make you laugh, cry, and ultimately enjoy this book. With a rating of 3.4 out of 5 stars, blog you later, awesome book nerds.

AUTHOR BIO:
G.K. De Rosa has been an avid reader from a very young age. At the precocious age of two, while living in Italy, she had memorized an entire children’s book in Italian and expertly turned the pages at the exact right moments of the story. As she grew up, she always enjoyed literature, no doubt having been instilled with a love of story telling from her early years in Catholic school where she was greatly influenced by exemplary teachers who taught her the value of English and Literature. Though she did not pursue writing in college and instead went for the more traditional route of International Business inspired by her love for travel and all things foreign, after a move to New York City, she found her creative writing side calling once again. She began writing a restaurant review blog, City Lights and Tasty Bites, detailing her other passion – food! The hectic hustle and bustle of the city, combined with long commuting times gave her the opportunity to spend more time reading and rekindled a lost love. After reading countless books in many diverse genres over the two years in New York City, and returning to her home state of Florida, she felt compelled to write something for herself. She had always felt particularly drawn to Young Adult novels and having been an eternal romantic at heart, a fantasy romance was a natural choice. She currently lives in South Florida with her real life Prince Charming and their fur baby, Nico the German shepherd.

Review: This book stole my heart. It is official. My heart was broken and shattered at the same time for what I felt for the characters in this book.

Rita Branches, a new author to me, brought one of the sexiest, sweetest, and loveliest books that I have ever drank up within a day. This was a book that I couldn't put down no matter how many times I tried to resist. If I saw the cover on my review copy, it would have drawn me in even more because I mean, look at how beautiful it is.

This had one of the most important lessons that I have ever read and learned through my young years. Don't judge someone because you don't know them and it gives you no right to base off people on how they look. It isn't fair to them because they can be the sweetest things on Earth but you would be too closed-minded to know.

Hell, this book as aforementioned had one of the strongest love stories that overcomes all. I felt the feels in this book and it is kind of impossible not too. I personally thought that it is impossible to love this book more than I do and it is mainly because of the fact that I finally let this book sink in.

Though, the ending felt rushed, I think that this was an impeccable book with a beautiful message to send to all. I rate this a 4.7 out of 5 stars.

Blog Tour: Above The Flames - Cassandra Fear

Publication date: April 19th 2016
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

Synopsis:
Jasmine’s sixteenth birthday was the worst ever…
All in one day, her dad died, she met a demon, and her mother rejected her existence forever. After all, the demon who killed her dad was there to take her, and all because of her stupid powers—the ability to conjure blue flames.
Two years later, she’s happy. But happy never lasts…
After moving to Idaho to live with her grandparents, Jasmine has a new life. Almost nobody knows about her powers, and she’s just a normal teenager with normal problems. Then comes her eighteenth birthday—and the earthquake that changes her world forever.
An army of demons rise from Hell. And Jasmine is right in the middle of the battle…
When demons claw their way to Earth, Jasmine is surrounded by hundreds of fire-eyed beasts. Worse, she is captured by a big-shot demon named Bael. He’s a tricky foe with a chip on his shoulder—and the desire to make Jasmine use her powers for evil.
Amon is a fallen angel with an attitude—and everything to lose.
Successfully escaping the underworld undetected, Amon is on a quest to regain God’s grace when he rescues Jasmine from the clutches of a particularly nasty demon he knows all too well. The attraction between him and the not-entirely-human captive is instantaneous. Heavenly sparks fly, but ideas of romance will have to wait. First they have to stop the demon race from wiping out the mortal realm. Humanity’s fate rests in their hands.
Can two troubled angels rise above the flames to ensure a future for mankind? Or will Jasmine and Amon’s souls be bound together—in hell?

Review: Fallen angels will always have my heart. When I read Above the Flames, my heart was enraptured and I loved how silly this book was and yet it was put together so beautifully. The only thing that I ask that if it is going to be a love story, there is no need for more than two POVs.

On Jasmine's sweet 16, her life goes to absolute hell. Why? You will just have to read this book.

I don't know whether it is because I am ultimately drawn to the whole fallen aspect of the characters. Everyone is damaged in someway somehow. But when Jasmine and Amon meet, sparks fly because they were made for each other.

Without giving away too many spoilers or any at all, I would highly recommend this book because if you are into the whole paranormal/fantasy land, this book will be considered riveting to you.

Review: Oh my god. The thrilling escapade of a Hunger Games mixed with something. I cannot put this book to words because it had me on my toes. I loved every single moment of it.

The heartbreaks. The darkness. The everything. I think once you read this book, you will go ahead and love this as well. I think I may have shed a tear or a hundred. No big deal.

Taylor Brooke really knows how to break your heart as an author that I have never read. So if you have never heard of her, this is the perfect book to read on any day.

Now let's talk about the book without any spoilers. Do you remember the genetically modified animals from the Hunger Games? The mutts specifically? Yeah, imagine that but this is that times Dolly cloning by a million.

It was deliciously creepy and I think that everyone should read this because these characters are kind of, sort of like superheroes. They are constantly battling their fears for others and they had some weird experiment done on them that makes them impossibly strong as well as their 5 senses heightened.

I am going to go ahead and rate this a good 4.8 out of 5 stars. Blog  you later, awesome book nerds.

Review: Wow. This book blew my mind away. I know I have been saying that for a while but this book was ultimately a tragic love story and I loved every single moment of it.

Now let's talk about why.

When you think of a love story, you probably think of the classic rich boy meets poor girl. Eyes meet. They date. They eventually fall in love with no intention too. Then there is a rift between the characters. Eventually, an HEA is in place. You can't have a love story without an HEA, right?

Right.

Now personally, that is exactly what happened. However, it worked because of tragic the story was. The death and the uncharacteristic characters. I mean, I definitely was not expecting what happened within these pages... Well I expected some. But not all.

It kind of reminded me of Dixon and Silver's relationship from 90210 but that is just because I like comparing things as soon as I read or see them. My gears are constantly working. Just kidding.

I space out a lot and it is a shocker that I am keeping up with this.

Back to the book, I devoured it in two days. Granted, it wasn't as long as I was expecting but the fact that it was enjoyable made it go by that much faster. I would definitely recommend this book.

So I will rate this a good 4 out of 5 stars.

Blog Tour: Flying Away - Caroline Gill

Published Date: January 12, 2016
Genre: Paranormal
Synopsis: When Iolani Bearse was five years old, she lost her father to war. When she was nine, her mother died in a freak car accident. When Lani was fourteen, eerie green lights invaded, tearing her from the only home she had left.

Living as a runaway, dragging a horse and her cousin Eleanor across the countryside, Lani must learn to survive. Now Lani is the only person between the horrible, greedy lights and the last bit of family she has left. Her own heart is barely beating, but powerful memories pull her to Malcolm St. John. She fights what she feels, buried deep within her shattered soul.

Malcolm St. John always held his feelings in, especially about Iolani. So when she shows up on his doorstep, desperate and determined, Mal must decide if the wild tales she spins are the fragments of insanity or the last hope for a dying nation. This Lani is different from the child he knew. Something is coming for her, for him, and will not be stopped

If the cousins and Malcolm can’t escape the grasping hunters who hound them, the future of a broken America will be destroyed. Everything Lani has ever loved will burn with them. Somehow, she must find a path through friendship and loyalty to save them all.

Excerpt: My relief at my escape washed away as I saw Eleanor's foot was already under the lake surface. Her leg slid toward the lapping waters, her limp body following behind. “No!” I cried out. Her other leg and then her hip slipped under. The rest of her body fell into the abyss.
With that scream, I jumped up ready for battle. By the time I got there, only the tip of her hands were visible, sinking fast. Laying on my stomach, I yanked as hard as I could on her fingertips, pulling her wrists out of the water. Adrenalin filled me. My head buzzed. I could see every detail of everything around me. Searching under the water, I felt Eleanor's shoulder. Dammit. I plunged both arms in, holding her against the tar's grasp. Her glowing face floated beneath the surface, eyes opened.
Grabbing her under her arms, I pulled against the suction of the lake monster. I refused to lose this battle, this friend. With the strength of seven men, I pulled her body back up, over the rough-hewn wood. Even as I yanked her shining shoulders away from the edge of the wooden dock, the darkness curled itself three times around her leg and strengthened its hold, resisting my intrusion.
“Eleanor! Eleanor, please!” My tears were useless. I was shivering and frantic at the same time.
I fought the malice. Whatever it was, the thing would not be denied. Hungry and determined, it did not pause. It wanted Eleanor. I struggled against the added weight of her water-soaked clothes.
A splinter stabbed my foot while I yanked on my cousin's paralyzed body. The sharp pain of it was distracting. It made me angry instead of afraid.
In the forest, the flies had given me a gift. Because of them, I could see beyond my limited senses. The darkest pitch was real, malignant and intelligent. Baleful eyes that marked the head of the beast shone clear as holiday lights. I wanted to shout something courageous like, “By the power of GreySword!” or some other battle-cry out of a childhood show. I wanted to be special, to have some ability to fight the scary thing that held my cousin. I had nothing but the flies' unintentional gift–that and my own stubbornness.
Standing up straight, I lunged away with all my might, calves straining against the mud and grass at the edge of the lake. “We are gonna make it. We are,” I vowed with each gained inch. Eleanor was almost off the dock, almost free of the bucking wood.
I looked back. The sinuous blackness still held her leg tight. It stretched like gum on the asphalt on the hottest days of August. Naked and shivering, my body started shaking. Pulling against such hunger left me drained. We gained precious ground, but soon I would falter. I felt insignificant trying to resist the lake creature.
Where was my mighty sword that I could use to cut the evil apart? Looking for anything that might sever the connection, I used the glow of Eleanor's body to search the nearby ground. There was a rusty length of chain and a broken shovel a few steps away, too far to do me any good.
Tears sprang to my eyes. Tears that I did not shed at the wrenching agony that killed my mother. Tears that did not fall while my mother's blood ran away, mingling with spilt oil and gasoline on the rain-slicked road–those tears. Each one was now a deluge. My anger and fear merged, a wick in the center of my bright frustration.
With clenched teeth, I started humming my mother's favorite lullaby, Rock-a-bye Baby. I resisted the illness that fed from those baleful eyes, floating ever nearer. It was the only song that came to mind. Weirdly, the predator's grip loosened a little. Anything that worked even a little was a road I would travel willingly.
Sweat stung my eyes. My tear ducts filled again. I started to sway from dizziness. Shouting the song at the tar octopus, I pulled and pulled against the flowing despair. “When the wind blows... the cradle, the cradle...”
With rage and determination, I yanked again on Eleanor's shoulders but to no avail. She was held tight, a rusted iron wedge forgotten in an overgrown tree. Grabbing at the slick tar that held her immobile, I was brought to my knees. The disease flowed out of the lake, full of venom and pesticide.
I spat at its grip, fighting for both of us. The dizziness grew.
A buzzing filled my head, a sound that both cocooned me and rang like the sounding of a tremendous tower bell. “Help me!” I cried out in desperation, confused and weary.
All around me, lights flickered and grew–lights blending with other flickering lights. I watched the starry sky fall to earth. I was at the center of a moving galaxy.
It was beautiful and miraculous, like floating in the middle of a perfectly calm sea and seeing the stars in stereo.
Like ash falling from a newly-made volcano, the fireflies came.

Review: Jesus... I don't even know where to begin with the book. It was beautifully put and it drew you in right from the start. You fell in love with the book. It wasn't Gabriella that drew me in but rather Darion... His demurring attitude and how he attracts everyone. Their eyes drift towards him. His presence makes that big of an impression. On every single person.

He's messed up in the head. This book is a twisted romance. Not something that you would expect. But for S. Valentine's debut novel, she just increased her fan base immensely.

With a rating of 4 out of 5 stars, I cannot wait to continue the story especially with the editing little cliffhanger at the end.

What People are saying:

"His Confession was a surprisingly engaging read with believable characters who were easy to connect with.It dealt with subjects a little different to what I'm used to, but the author did a great job of pulling me into her world.” - Mia Hoddell, YA/NA author.

”His Confession pulled me through from the first paragraph! The enigmatic Darion practically leapt off the pages and I could picture his every move and facial expression clear as day in my head! This story is definitely one to add to your “want-to-read” list-especially if you love a captivating plot as well as scenes so hot that they fog up your glasses. I don’t want to say too much and spoil it for future readers but DARION and GABI put Christian and Ana to SHAME! Enough said. LOL.”  - Kiarra M. Taylor, contemporary romance author of THE QUARTER CHANGE.

”I loved it and I'm excited to read more to find out what happens. Darion is a great guy who was hurt badly and doesn't know how to handle, which in steps Gabi. Love love love her! Hopefully she fights for him! When does the next book come out, as I'm dying to know what comes next! I also hope the girls get their own stories.”  - Susan Flynn, Beta reader Writers club.

”S. Valentine does an exquisite job at creating a dynamic between two characters, both from different worlds, that goes beyond a physical attraction.
His Confession is book one in The Black Door Trilogy. It is a fast paced story that is full of hotness and anticipation that heats you up from your head to your toes. Gabi, is tired of always playing it safe. Darion, has demons that he can no longer control.
When these two get together, boundaries are pushed, control is tested and emotions run wild.”  - AV. Scott, author of High Heels & New York.

"A brilliant book which leaves you wondering what happened in Darion's past that has left him so wary and so afraid to put himself and his heart out there not to mention to put his faith and trust in Gabi, the one woman whose managed to penetrate the walls he's built.
I can't wait for book 2 and I'm hoping that Darion and Gabi can overcome the obstacles that stand in front of them, including Eva, Darion's ex wife.”  - Rebecca Barber, author Nobody's Obligation.

Blog Tour: Freeing Destiny - Faith Andrews (Fate #2)

Release Date: March 14, 2016
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Synopsis: Words to live by:
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
Don’t break the rules.
I’d managed to fail at both by fraternizing with the enemy’s brother. Guess I’d followed in my mother’s footsteps by ignoring all the rules when it came to love.
Mom was marrying a man only six years older than me. A man who was also her student. But the biggest surprise that came out of their wedding wasn’t my new stepdad’s academic status or his age.
It was Jack Davis—my stepfather’s best friend.
Jack was the guy who could change the whole game. He was quite possibly my soul mate. But time and circumstance were against us—there was no easy way around it. I was moving back to New York in two weeks and his sister, Aubrey, was the one person my family hated most in this world. How would his sister—the enemy—deal with another Edwards girl claiming what she believed was hers? The idea of letting Jack go crippled me. Would I have to cut ties with the only man I’d ever let into my heart?

Excerpt: “I don’t think you’re a tease, Stella.”
“Then what do you think?” I was dying to know what was running through his mind. I wasn’t playing a game—honest to God—but I could see how it might look that way. Unlike the way I’d felt in the beginning of all this, I didn’t want him to give up on me because my actions were yo-yoing all over the place.
I wanted him to pursue me while we still had time.
Taking my hand in his, he placed one finger under my chin and turned my face in his direction. “What I think is that you’re a phenomenal kisser. And I plan on doing a lot more of that tonight and all the other nights until you leave—maybe even some of that kissing will convince you not to go. But in the meantime, we’re going back to my place, we’re going to order whatever you want to eat, then relax and watch a movie or whatever makes you comfortable. As long as we get to spend time together . . . there’s no rush.”
The saddened look in his eyes told me that last part was a lie. It was painfully obvious that we were running out of time. I hated it. There were so many things I wished for in that moment—the ability to freeze the clock, or travel back in time, or to have an endless do-over of the last few days with Jack on a repeat reel. It felt like some odd and cruel twist of fate. What kind of messed up destiny would throw Jack in my path now?
Forgoing all the bitter thoughts playing out in my frazzled brain, I nodded in answer to Jack’s questioning eyes. “Okay. I like the sound of that.”
It was time to abandon plans and worries and strategies. The only thing I planned on doing from here on out was whatever I felt was right—in the moment. I wanted to kiss him again, and if kissing led to more then I was ready for that, too. Jack was right when he said all that mattered was that we spent the time we did have together. The memories would be worth it, even if it meant hurting in their absence.
