ARC: Asleep - Krystal Wade

Published Date: February 16, 2016
Genre: Horror
Synopsis: "To cure fear, you must use fear."
Rose Briar claims no responsibility for the act that led to her imprisonment in an asylum. She wants to escape, until terrifying nightmares make her question her sanity and reach out to her doctor. He’s understanding and caring in ways her parents never have been, but as her walls tumble down and Rose admits fault, a fellow patient warns her to stop the medications. Phillip believes the doctor is evil and they’ll never make it out of the facility alive. Trusting him might be just the thing to save her. Or it might prove the asylum is exactly where she needs to be.

You can already tell from the cover that this was going to be a creepy one before you even read it or saw the genre. Though this book became better, I do have to warn ahead that there is a slow beginning. I don't know if I even liked the beginning because it moved like a slug.

Now personally, I felt that it gave me the perfect feel of creepy horror that I oh so crave and haven't had since the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark when I was a child. So the fact that I got my fill on this and also have it not to be ridiculously cheesy, romantic, or flat out stupid, makes it all the better.

It makes you feel crazy in the end and not the other way around. It twists and turns the mechanisms in your brain and there is no way to overcome them.

So to cure fear, you must use fear.

I think Krystal Wade does a fantastic job at capturing her readers in the end but not so much in the beginning. I felt that it was slow and rather childish. But I did end up liking it to an extent for a 3.3 out of 5 stars.

Death in Neverland - Heather C. Myers (Neverland #1)

Published Date: November 12, 2014
Genre: Fantasy
Synopsis: In the Neverland, people don't grow up. Because they're dead.

Remy Cutler dies, and somehow escapes certain death. She returns to the land of the living with nothing but a ripped gown and a fear of heights.

Two years later, she plans to escape her arranged marriage by stowing away onto a ship in hopes to leave her home with no one none knowing. However, she is found out, and the sailors aren't happy. Before any damage can be done, she is yanked from her predicament back to The Neverland, a place where death resides - the very place she escaped from years ago. Souls are ferried by her savior. To her, he's known as Nick, but to The Neverland, he's the slippery Nicholas Grey.

The more time Remy spends with Nick and his crew, however, the more she realizes he's shockingly misunderstood. Pirates aren't all bad the way gentleman aren't all good. One such gentleman goes by the name of Peter, and he has nothing but power on his mind and revenge against Grey in his heart. And then there are those that are completely indiscernible, like James Hook, a Viking and ruler of The Other World, whose sole ambition is attaining more souls to rule over, no matter what the cost.

This dark retelling of Peter Pan infuses familiar characters created by J. M. Barrie with new characters and Greek mythology. It is the first in a trilogy.

I actually enjoyed this book because I didn't need the full background on the story. I know Neverland, and I love it. It is the place that people go if they want to fly and be happy. There is Pan, Hook, and a somewhat representation of Wendy. Except for the fact that her name isn't Wendy. It's Remy.

She is naive, ridiculous, and flat out annoying. But you kind of warm up to her in the near end because she is our heroine and well you kind of have to start liking her. My favorite in this character is Nicholas Grey because he is the ultimate boy that you have to fall in love with but there were favorites throughout. I felt more in common with the antagonists than the protagonists... I think there is a problem there if I do.

Every book has their downfall and this one had plenty which s why I do have to rate this a 3 out of 5 stars. It isn't completely awesome nor awful, just somewhere in the middle. I felt that some of the characters were under developed and other over developed. I can never be happy in that sense but what am I to do.

Heather C. Myers was a new author to me but I do not think that I will continue the series due to the disappointment that still radiated from this book.

EXCERPT:
Dying hurt as much as I’d thought it would.
My burning lungs begged for relief as air hissed into my nose through a plastic tube. The shallow breaths wheezing out of my mouth somehow tasted like medicine and sweat.
They tasted like my life.
Instead of violins and the somber music that played on movies in moments like this, I was dying to the soundtrack of beeping monitors and the soft shuffling of my parents’ feet. They moved around our suite quietly, like ghosts, as they waited for me to become one and finally lose to leukemia.
I’d spent the last three weeks at an upscale ski resort in Lake Placid, just watching my health fade and my time on Earth dwindle to nothing. The view of the constant snow and the towering mountains in the distance usually distracted me from the pain. I needed that view more than ever tonight. Everything hurt, but in my mind, if I didn’t mention it, if I didn’t break, I would beat cancer in my own way.

We couldn’t afford to stay in this snowy paradise, but my parents didn’t want me to die in a sterile hospital. We’d moved to Lake Placid five months ago to chase another faint glimmer of hope, but the clinical trial had ended like all of the others—with me getting sicker. This time, we weren’t doing anything about it. After five years of giving cancer all we had, my parents had decided that we’d fought too much, cried too much, and hoped too much to do it again.
And that was okay. It had to be.
My final days were passing in a blur of tearful calls from my grandparents, long stares from my mom and dad, and smiles from my strangely exuberant hospice nurse. Sarah, with her endless energy and joy, was easily my favorite person on the planet. She supplied medicine that stopped me from feeling and long stories that kept me thinking, which made me feel alive.
Tonight, she was so busy gabbing about her ballerina days that she’d forgotten a dose of painkillers. I didn’t mention it. As she adjusted my oxygen tube, I stared at her beautiful, pixie-like face and the bright red hair framing it. Her tiny features and permanent smile made her a living fairy to me. My personal Tinkerbelle.
“It’s going to happen tonight, isn’t it?” She didn’t answer me. She draped another blanket over my legs without making eye contact. “They gave me a week to live … a week ago.”
“Sydney, I don’t want you to be concerned about death. Ever. Only focus on life and the living. Remember that, sweet girl.”
What a weird thing to say to an almost-corpse. I didn’t need to remember anything anymore. I laughed at her, and that disturbed my failing lungs. One cough turned into two, and soon Sarah had to hold me as my chest heaved relentlessly. The awful sound summoned my parents to my room.
They crept in with red eyes and rivers flowing down their cheeks, wearing yesterday’s clothes.
Nothing said that I was dying more than my dad being home. No matter where we moved, he worked, thanks to his special talent of finding a job within a day. He’d emigrated from China with his parents as a kid, and his entire family worked like one day off would mean certain death. So that was what he did—he spent his days toiling at dead-end jobs to barely keep us afloat. Except for today.
He squeezed my mom’s hand as they approached my bed. Her long dreads were down and wild tonight, and she looked beautiful despite her swollen face and runny nose. My mom had four piercings in each ear, an effortlessly cool hippy style, and a thick Trinidadian accent. Once, I’d wanted to be just like her, but now, I didn’t know what being like her meant other than crying a lot and receiving bad news.
“Mr. and Mrs. Long,” Sarah said, “I was just about to give Sydney her medicine. She’ll be asleep soon, and you don’t look like you’ve gotten much rest. I can watch her tonight.”
“Sarah,” I whispered, as my chest finally calmed. “Go home. Your shift is over.”
She pressed her warm hand to my cheek. I could’ve sworn, for a moment, I felt completely okay.

Blitz: What Love Is - Emma South

What Love Is
Emma South
Publication date: April 29th 2016
Genres: New Adult, Romance, Suspense

In this epic romance collection that spans eighteen years, the lives of six people will be changed forever.
Ask a million people what love is, and you’ll get a million different answers. None of them are wrong.
What makes a Marine take a bullet for a Hollywood starlet?
What makes a singer with a deep-seated hatred for the wealthy find herself smiling for the first time with a billionaire?
What makes a small-town princess defy death to be reunited with her small-town prince?
The answer is love.
EXCERPT:
I hadn’t been held quite like this ever before, so tenderly yet with an unmistakable undercurrent of lust. I’d had embraces in the past, in another lifetime, that meant all kinds of things. Celebrations, commiserations, I-was-just-jokings, they’d provided so much I didn’t even realize until they were gone.
One minute they were there and then all of a sudden there were no more shoulders to cry on. The shoulder that I should have been able to turn to was busy with other things, things that weren’t me, and that had maybe done the most damage of all. That had hurt a lot.
“Are you going to hurt me too?” I whispered without even consciously willing it, so quietly that I didn’t think Jeremy would hear, but he did.
Jeremy stopped moving and I could feel him looking down at me.
“No. Bea, look at me,” he said.
Jeremy let go with one hand and I felt his finger lightly pushing my chin until I opened my eyes and gazed up at him. Jeremy’s brow furrowed and he shook his head gently.
“No,” he repeated.
I lost myself in his eyes for a second and then raised myself up on the tips of my toes to get closer to him. Jeremy lowered his head and our lips met for the second time in as many days, a much slower kiss that soon had me as oblivious to the outside world as I had been while dancing just a few moments ago.
The song faded away and our lips parted as I heard the sound of a couple people clapping. Our waitress was standing next to the young man who had been moving tables earlier and an older man, the owner perhaps. They were all clapping politely, but only our waitress had a truly dreamy look in her eye.
When we had been interrupted the previous day I had been anxious to get some distance between the two of us as quickly as possible. I didn’t feel that now, I didn’t want to be apart from him even a single inch.

I'm in my thirties and living in New Zealand. About 3 years ago I lost somebody very close to me. I was lucky in a way, I was given enough time to make a promise. My promise was that I would never forget our young and innocent love, and it's a promise I intend to keep.
My writing is a way to help me keep that promise. I've always enjoyed writing but was forced into being 'prudent' and giving myself over to soul-crushing office work for the sake of a steady salary. Recent events forced me to re-evaluate my priorities and I decided to take a chance. I like to put little pieces of 'us' into my writing, from funny conversations we had, to apocalyptic arguments, to that special feeling you get when you hop into bed fully aware that your feet are freezing but your partner doesn't kick you away.
Even though these things are set in fictional worlds and attached to fictional characters, in a way it feels like I'm doing something that will make our love live forever. If somebody reads one of my stories and likes a joke or sheds a tear, then our love has lived on, and I thank any readers I might have for that.

SNEAK A PEEK AT SCARRED:
“It’s a little late for you to be working out still, River. Rest periods are for exactly that, rest.”
She slowed the treadmill to a walk and stepped to the side. Never turning around to face me, she took a swig from her water bottle and meticulously closed the cap.
“I don’t need rest. It’s been six months, Ethan, and I know that eventually Derrick is going to find me. I don’t have the luxury of resting.”
“Pantera,” I corrected her.
She turned then, watching me with a question in her eyes. “Why do they call you that?”
“Because it’s my name, and it’s the one you will use.”
“Ethan Kendall is your name, and I’ve been calling you that the whole time,” she said. She had fire, I’d give her that. But this was my world, my rules. Ethan was a man I wasn’t. A figment of a cracked memory that didn’t mean shit anymore.
“Do you know what Pantera means?” I asked her. My glide toward her was slow. I paused at random intervals, stalking her, pushing her. She was prey. She fought hard not to be, but I still smelled weakness on her, on the edges of her anger. She was always afraid, terrified of what was coming, and not knowing what the result would be. It was that fear that would destroy her.
That fear drew me in.
“Panther,” she said. “I looked it up on the laptop you gave me.”
“I earned that name, River. Carved it out in skin and made my enemies regret ever trespassing against me. What have you done? What have you been made to survive that would ever make you think you could stand on even ground with me?”
I could feel the heat of her anger, but it didn’t stop me. It couldn’t. Anger wasn’t what made me the demon that I was. It was pure, cold, unfiltered hopelessness forged into a blade to cut my way through life.
“You’ve never asked what I went through before,” she said.
I shook my head. “Because it doesn’t matter. I don’t care.”
“You cared enough to take me on after you saw me in the hospital,” she returned.
“That’s where you’re wrong, River. So wrong. I enjoy playing with my food. Your every breath marks you as a victim. Every time you freeze when Pavel attacks you from behind, I know you will fail. And every second you look at me with those fearful eyes, I know that whatever Derrick did, he did because you let him.”
She roared her anger, and I laughed. Even as she leapt at me, swinging her right fist hard, I enjoyed her anger. She was smart, sweeping her left leg to take me down, but I twisted my body into her so we were chest to chest. I sensed the shift in her stance and blocked her knee angled for my crotch and wrapped my arm around her neck.
“You can’t beat me, River. You never could.”
Two seconds. That was all it took to take her to the ground. And then she was under me, punching, twisting, and fighting to get away. I let her do nothing. I splayed out above her, pushing her into the mat beneath us. Then I gripped one wrist and planted it above her head. She fought harder, raking her nails down the side of my neck before I could grab that wrist too.
“You have claws, detenysh, but not like mine.”
I bit down on the soft spot of her neck, where it met her shoulder. Her pulse throbbed against my tongue. She screamed, but I didn’t clamp down. I didn’t need to draw blood or hurt her to prove my point. But, somehow, I lost what I had been trying to convey. Between her scent, filled with lavender, and the feel of her body against mine, I noticed her as a man would.
Her breasts were smashed against my chest, but I could feel their fullness. I was cradled in her thighs, a position that went from thinking of the fighting front mount stance, to darker needs. Blood rushed through my veins and pooled into my dick, short circuiting any rational thought.
I wanted her.
I eased my teeth off her and licked over the abused flesh. She froze, a casualty to my strength, my desire, and I couldn’t stop. I traced my way over her jaw and nipped her chin. Her small gasp was all the permission I needed to take her mouth with mine.
Flavor blasted over my taste buds. How long had it been since I kissed a woman? Since I felt one give under my hands? Of all the ones I’d known, I couldn’t place her taste. It was wild and free, and tinted with tears. I knew that place.
Between youth and cynical maturation brought on by fear.
I’d been there.
She was at a precipice she didn’t even realize. She wanted me to make her a killer and all I could think about was taking her body with mine. How fucked up was I that I wouldn’t stop?
I wanted to punish her for making me want something that shouldn’t exist in my life any more. My life was an abyss and she wouldn’t survive it. I hated her for wanting to make me try.

Author Bio:
So I think this is the part where I'm supposed to say something super cool, win you over, and make you my life-long superfan...OR wait, is that how I am about my anime collection?
Probably.
Basically, I'm an author, blogger, geek, and villain lover (Joker IS MINE!). There shouldn't be any surprise then that I tend to love my heroes a bit broken, all messed up, and in need of someone who understands them just the way they are.
Ha, my heroines are right there with them. You see, love is nice, it's sweet. It can be all rainbows and glowing stars. And then it can be dark, twisted, hurtful, and feel so good you have to scream about it. So I write like that. From one side of the spectrum to the other, because that's real. That's life. And that's what we crave--delving into a fantasy world or not.

Excerpt: Wilder - G.K. DeRosa

“Okay so Dani pointed Nico Constantin out to me, Celeste. Let’s go introduce ourselves,” said Natalie, grabbing Celeste’s arm excitedly.
“Who’s Nico Constantin?” asked Brian returning his focus to the conversation.
“Oh you know, the mysterious stranger Celeste bumped into at the library over the weekend.”
Celeste noticed Brian’s face tense up, but he coolly shrugged it off. “Nope never heard of him.” He looked at her disapprovingly.
“Oh yeah, I guess it must have slipped my mind,” said Celeste.
“Well, I’m going to grab a beer. You girls want something?” asked Brian.
“Sure!” the girls said in unison.
As soon as Brian walked away, Natalie hurried Celeste over to the cramped kitchen. She pointed at the back corner of the apartment where a tall dark-haired boy was talking to a group of giggling girls.
“Look, is that your mystery man?” asked Natalie.
“I’m not sure,” answered Celeste trying to get a look over the crowd on her tiptoes. “He has his back to us so I can’t see his face.”
“Well get over there Celeste! It looks like you’re going to have to get in line to talk to him. Look at all of those girls all over him!”
Celeste’s heart was pounding as she stared at the dark-haired stranger from across the room. “I don’t know about this Nat. What am I supposed to say? ‘Uh, hi, I’m the girl who bumped into you in the library, nice to meet you’?”
“Who cares? Just get over there! Come on, I’ll go with you.” Natalie pulled Celeste by the arm.
The girls made their way over to the other side of the apartment, weaving through the dense crowd of college students and stopped a few feet away from their target.
“I can’t do this,” said Celeste.
“There’s no backing out now,” said Natalie as she squirmed through the crowd with Celeste in tow and tapped Nico on the shoulder. He turned around with a stunning smile and Celeste found herself face to face with him.
“Well hello ladies, how can I help you?” he asked, warmth exuding from his voice.

Both girls were silent for a moment as they stared in appreciation of this gorgeous and impeccably dressed young man. His aqua button-down shirt was meticulously ironed, and his midnight blue designer jeans seemed custom made. He was tall, his short black hair neatly gelled back, with matching dark eyes and a teasing grin that would melt any girl’s heart.

ARC: Bodyguard Dearest - Alison Foster

Published Date: February 29, 2016
Genre: Romance
Synopsis: My name is Tris Kane and I'm so done with college and this whole town and the leash my gangster father wrapped around my life at birth.
Oh yeah, and let's not forget Tanner Hayes, my father's all muscle watchdog who lives in my shadow. He's my so-called bodyguard.
I don't need a fucking bodyguard! And I hate his rugged deliciousness. Tanner barely ever speaks, yet I can't stop thinking about him. He's always there.
It just makes me want to scream.

This book was an interesting take on everything. I honestly thought this book was a bit overrated and I didn't know how I felt about it.

In some ways, I did enjoy this book. But in reality, I think I disliked the book more than I did enjoy it. I was going to use the word hate but I feel as though that is too strong of a word for this due to the fact that I was able to finish the book before I collapsed from the fatigue.

From what I understood, this was to be a taboo romance but I didn't see it as that. She seemed to be a fully consenting adult and from the way she teased him, it was supposed to be sexy. It wasn't. At least in my eyes. I truly thought this was a boring romance.

There was a climax and all but it fell as quickly as it rose. That is the sad part about some of these books. Romance is hard to capture and if you were never in love, there is no way to enhance that within your books.

Ultimately, as unsure as I felt about this book, I think I will rate this a solid 3 out of 5 stars. I don't want to think of this as a DNF book or even an awful one that I suffered through. There were good parts to it but it made me yawn.

Review: This book was a well-written book. G.K. DeRosa captures the fantasy of mythological creatures by putting a definite mind whirling spin on her characters. DeRosa cleverly combines The Vampire Diaries with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Though not an original storyline, she makes the story work together. You will feel sympathy for Celeste because all she wanted was to have a normal life with normal friends. That is, until she runs into the new brothers in town. Literally.
Though as aforementioned, it wasn't an original story and I had a hard time getting through the middle, the plot was meticulous and it was well developed. I pushed through this book because it was a cute young adult book. It captures how rebellious kids can be when restrained and confined into a narrow box.
High school Celeste will make you laugh, cry, and ultimately enjoy this book. With a rating of 3.4 out of 5 stars, blog you later, awesome book nerds.

AUTHOR BIO:
G.K. De Rosa has been an avid reader from a very young age. At the precocious age of two, while living in Italy, she had memorized an entire children’s book in Italian and expertly turned the pages at the exact right moments of the story. As she grew up, she always enjoyed literature, no doubt having been instilled with a love of story telling from her early years in Catholic school where she was greatly influenced by exemplary teachers who taught her the value of English and Literature. Though she did not pursue writing in college and instead went for the more traditional route of International Business inspired by her love for travel and all things foreign, after a move to New York City, she found her creative writing side calling once again. She began writing a restaurant review blog, City Lights and Tasty Bites, detailing her other passion – food! The hectic hustle and bustle of the city, combined with long commuting times gave her the opportunity to spend more time reading and rekindled a lost love. After reading countless books in many diverse genres over the two years in New York City, and returning to her home state of Florida, she felt compelled to write something for herself. She had always felt particularly drawn to Young Adult novels and having been an eternal romantic at heart, a fantasy romance was a natural choice. She currently lives in South Florida with her real life Prince Charming and their fur baby, Nico the German shepherd.

Review: This book stole my heart. It is official. My heart was broken and shattered at the same time for what I felt for the characters in this book.

Rita Branches, a new author to me, brought one of the sexiest, sweetest, and loveliest books that I have ever drank up within a day. This was a book that I couldn't put down no matter how many times I tried to resist. If I saw the cover on my review copy, it would have drawn me in even more because I mean, look at how beautiful it is.

This had one of the most important lessons that I have ever read and learned through my young years. Don't judge someone because you don't know them and it gives you no right to base off people on how they look. It isn't fair to them because they can be the sweetest things on Earth but you would be too closed-minded to know.

Hell, this book as aforementioned had one of the strongest love stories that overcomes all. I felt the feels in this book and it is kind of impossible not too. I personally thought that it is impossible to love this book more than I do and it is mainly because of the fact that I finally let this book sink in.

Though, the ending felt rushed, I think that this was an impeccable book with a beautiful message to send to all. I rate this a 4.7 out of 5 stars.

Blog Tour: Above The Flames - Cassandra Fear

Publication date: April 19th 2016
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

Synopsis:
Jasmine’s sixteenth birthday was the worst ever…
All in one day, her dad died, she met a demon, and her mother rejected her existence forever. After all, the demon who killed her dad was there to take her, and all because of her stupid powers—the ability to conjure blue flames.
Two years later, she’s happy. But happy never lasts…
After moving to Idaho to live with her grandparents, Jasmine has a new life. Almost nobody knows about her powers, and she’s just a normal teenager with normal problems. Then comes her eighteenth birthday—and the earthquake that changes her world forever.
An army of demons rise from Hell. And Jasmine is right in the middle of the battle…
When demons claw their way to Earth, Jasmine is surrounded by hundreds of fire-eyed beasts. Worse, she is captured by a big-shot demon named Bael. He’s a tricky foe with a chip on his shoulder—and the desire to make Jasmine use her powers for evil.
Amon is a fallen angel with an attitude—and everything to lose.
Successfully escaping the underworld undetected, Amon is on a quest to regain God’s grace when he rescues Jasmine from the clutches of a particularly nasty demon he knows all too well. The attraction between him and the not-entirely-human captive is instantaneous. Heavenly sparks fly, but ideas of romance will have to wait. First they have to stop the demon race from wiping out the mortal realm. Humanity’s fate rests in their hands.
Can two troubled angels rise above the flames to ensure a future for mankind? Or will Jasmine and Amon’s souls be bound together—in hell?

Review: Fallen angels will always have my heart. When I read Above the Flames, my heart was enraptured and I loved how silly this book was and yet it was put together so beautifully. The only thing that I ask that if it is going to be a love story, there is no need for more than two POVs.

On Jasmine's sweet 16, her life goes to absolute hell. Why? You will just have to read this book.

I don't know whether it is because I am ultimately drawn to the whole fallen aspect of the characters. Everyone is damaged in someway somehow. But when Jasmine and Amon meet, sparks fly because they were made for each other.

Without giving away too many spoilers or any at all, I would highly recommend this book because if you are into the whole paranormal/fantasy land, this book will be considered riveting to you.

Genres: Contemporary, Young Adult

For Stephen, his life on base is much the same as most other children’s. The difference is in the details. Look both ways before crossing a tank path and be sure to check if the spent bullet casings you find in the long-abandoned trenches are actually empty. Sports stop at the sound of the evening trumpet call as he and his friends stand at attention while the flag is retired. Quantico Cave is a story of friendship and competition, and when Stephen meets up with a friend he once knew at a previous home station, the contest hits a whole new level that places everyone at risk.

Excerpt:
Rick was the second batter this inning. He stared at Stan as if daring him to put a fastball down the middle. The first two pitches missed the strike zone. “C’mon, put one where I can hitit,” Rick taunted.“Blast it past him.” Stephen could feel his heart rate ramp up every time Stan went into his windup. Rick picked up his foot as Stan reared back to throw his fastball and stepped straight toward Stephen at second base. He leveled his swing and connected, driving the ball hard. It skipped past Stan toward Stephen.Oh, crap. Stephen stepped back. Move forward, his mind screamed. He took one halting step forward and stumbled to one knee. The ball ricocheted from his thigh. He snatched it from the ground and twisted to fire, nailing Rick on the side of his knee as he crossed the bag at first base. Stephen winced at the impact.Rick hopped and limped as he tried to shake off the pain. “Son of a—shit.” He spun on his good leg, slammed his hat to the ground, and kicked it. “I’ll kick your butt,” he snarled. Forgetting his pain, he charged at Stephen. Don’t fight him. Dad just made Captain. Stephen’s eyes grew wide as he watched Rick charge in his direction. “Rick, be cool.” Don’t screw it up. “I wasn’t—”He slammed into Stephen with both arms extended, and Stephen tumbled in the dirt. “Stay down! You get up again,” Rick panted, “and I’ll clobber you.”

After being assured day after day that the world outside their little camp had been compromised, Brooklyn’s cabin-mate, Dawson Winters, finds a letter that turns everything they’d known upside down. There is a world outside the trees that surrounds their camp, and the virus they all feared seems non-existent.
Determined to see it herself, Brooklyn plots with others to attempt an escape…
On the outside, Brooklyn finds the world is as normal as ever. But when they are attacked in the city, they dispose of their attackers far more efficiently than any normal human.. Is there more to Brooklyn and her friends then just being highly trained?
As their exploration continues, the group is faced with impossible feats. Betrayal, love, death, and a powerful sense of camaraderie lead Brooklyn and her friends to fight for their life, their freedom, and most of all, each other.

Review: Oh my god. The thrilling escapade of a Hunger Games mixed with something. I cannot put this book to words because it had me on my toes. I loved every single moment of it.

The heartbreaks. The darkness. The everything. I think once you read this book, you will go ahead and love this as well. I think I may have shed a tear or a hundred. No big deal.

Taylor Brooke really knows how to break your heart as an author that I have never read. So if you have never heard of her, this is the perfect book to read on any day.

Now let's talk about the book without any spoilers. Do you remember the genetically modified animals from the Hunger Games? The mutts specifically? Yeah, imagine that but this is that times Dolly cloning by a million.

It was deliciously creepy and I think that everyone should read this because these characters are kind of, sort of like superheroes. They are constantly battling their fears for others and they had some weird experiment done on them that makes them impossibly strong as well as their 5 senses heightened.

I am going to go ahead and rate this a good 4.8 out of 5 stars. Blog  you later, awesome book nerds.

Excerpt:
He’d missed the taste of her. Tart and hot and distinctly Krista, like nothing he’d had before and would never have again. He flicked his tongue along the seam of her lips, coaxing her open. He’d come here for peace, to grieve, to lean on someone who’d let him. But until the moment her lips parted and her tongue met his, he hadn’t wanted to admit he’d come here for her. She made a whimpering, pleading noise in the back of her throat, and the sexy sound shot through his veins. Closer. He needed her closer. Over him, under him, it didn’t matter. Gliding a hand down her back, he pressed her in, shifting onto his side as her body straightened out and aligned with his. Then, ignoring the sudden pain in his ankle, he rolled them so she was under him. When her legs parted to cradle his hips, it was like he’d never left. Her legs wound around his waist, her mouth fused to his, her body’s curves and heat and sweetness dragging him out of the dark, the ache disappearing. He took her mouth, or she took his, it didn’t matter. Over and over, tongues dueling, her hands roaming his back, fingers digging into his shoulders as she arched under him. He dropped kisses along her jaw, suckled the sensitive skin behind her ear, scraping his teeth over it when she gasped. The feel of her obliterated the last remnants of sadness, leaving him wide open and ready for more.Take her. Take her completely, strip aside her flimsy skirt and panties, sheathe himself in her wet heat. Six long months of craving her and telling himself he’d done the right thing. He’d almost convinced himself they were better off apart. Then Eric died and all he’d thought about was how the world went quiet when she was around.Lifting his head, he drank in her flushed skin and swollen lips, her eyes hooded and hazy with desire. He’d never seen anything more gorgeous. “Babe.” Slow it down. Stay out of the bedroom, learn her habits and favorites and quirks. No way would either of them be able to say it was just sex.One side of her mouth quirked up, and he dropped a kiss there. “Guess that was inevitable, huh?” she said.He propped himself up on his forearms and ignored his throbbing dick and the stabbing pains in his ankle. “Possibly. Not intentional, though. I meant it. I came here because I needed someone who’d have my back.” Needed. The word didn’t sit comfortably. She lifted a hand to his jaw. “Usually when people need me they end up disappointing me. I think the only one who didn’t was Sara, and that’s probably because everyone else braced themselves with me. She leaned when it was too hard to stand on her own. So did you,” she murmured. “You never asked for more.”That was about to change. “Krista—”“Are you going to disappoint me, too?” The fear threading the question gave him pause. It’s what humans did. They disappointed each other. It was inevitable as the two of them on the couch, wrapped around each other. He struggled to sit up, grimacing when the continued movement jostled his ankle. “That’s a sucker promise, and you know it.”Her lids snapped shut, mouth tightening. “I know. I’m not going to ask you to make it, because then you will break it. But I don’t want to do this again. You’ve got a life to go back to. Los Angeles isn’t my home anymore.” When her eyes opened, there was sadness there, sadness and resignation. She sat up and swung her legs off the couch. “We don’t work.” She touched her mouth to his, drawing back when he tried to deepen it. “I’m sorry,” she whispered as she stood. The loss of her touch and warmth had the ache and grief rushing in. He balled his hands into fists, punched down into the couch cushion as she hurried from the room. Well, he’d wanted slow. He’d just gotten his wish.
