Guest Post: Justice for Corrie - Susan Stoker (Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes #3)

Today is more or less a small post and I just wanted to share how amazing this response was when I asked Susan about this. 

Susan Stoker brought me Justice for Corrie and now added on more books onto my TBR list but I got the chance to talk with her and I asked if she knew how her stories developed and if she knew them right away.

Here is what I got. :)

STOKER: I get asked a lot if I know what’s going to happen in my books before I start them. The answer is “sort of.”. I have the basic idea of how the couple meets and then what the “drama” is going to be about three fourths of the way through the book, but otherwise I just let it flow as I write.
I also write way ahead of schedule…so by the time the book comes out, it’s been written and waiting for several months. This allows me to re-read it when it gets time to publish, and make it better. I can add in things that have come up with preceding books, and add in some “easter eggs” for the readers. (i.e. things to link the current book to past books, or even future ones).
It’s a process that works for me, but certainly doesn’t for all authors. I always tell people when they ask “how to write,” that they will have to come up with what works for them. You can’t do what others do, you can only do what is best for your creativity. And that is true for anything. 

Now personally I think that is not only inspirational but it is really deep and makes you want to strive and bring joy to people like she does.

You know, after this book, it took me a good while to process everything. I never realized how grateful I am to have all five senses. Granted that most of them don't work to the best of the abilities but honestly, Corrie did prove to me that just because you are disabled does not mean that you are defenseless. You have the means to be strong. But you have to be willing to take that leap. 

There was a part in the book that made me cry. What Corrie went through as a person, you just have to show the emotions for her. Okay, another part, I laughed out loud about the reaction and conversation between Quint and Corrie. 

You can definitely add Quint to your book boyfriends list because I definitely did after this. 

There is this creepy antagonist that will have you shiver straight through your body because of how slimy and snarky he is. He needs to learn to keep his dick in his pants because it creeps me out just thinking that there are freaks like this... I have been watching my back ever since this book and though it is slightly terrifying, I kind of liked that there was some creepy shite within this book.

Not only was this book romantically perfect with a strong female character but it had the funny moments that made you feel like you were already there by Corrie and Quint's side, enjoying their conversations. 

This is definitely a book that I would buy if I didn't already have it. So go get it because I know for a fact that you will love this book to infinity especially if you like rom coms in books. With a rating of 4 out of 5 stars, I can honestly say that I loved this book with my heart. I got to connect with Corrie and Quint right away because this book is a stand alone. So take the time to read this book and even go back and read the previous ones.

Just as Corrie reached for the doorknob to see if she could find Shaun—he usually hung out in the makeshift break room toward the back of the clinic—she heard angry voices in the reception area, followed by a weird popping noise. She froze in her tracks and tilted her head to the side, trying to figure out what was going on.
It wasn't until she heard Cayley's scream cut short that Corrie figured out something horrible was happening.
Knowing better than to open her door and try to stop whatever was going on, Corrie stepped quickly away from the door and imagined her office layout in her head. As the popping noises and the screams continued—and got closer to her office—she frantically thought about where she could hide.
Her desk was large, and sat perpendicular to the doorway. She could walk from the door straight to the chair at her desk without having to swerve around any furniture. She kept her office purposely free of extraneous chairs and tables so she didn't have to worry about tripping over them. She could hide under the desk, but wasn't that where everyone always hid—and died doing it? If she was a crazy person hell-bent on killing everyone around her, that's the first place she'd look for stragglers who might be hiding.
The exam door down the hall was opened and Corrie heard Mr. Treadaway ask, "Who are you?" before the awful popping sound came again.
Knowing time was running out, the gunman would be at her office within moments, Corrie made the split-second decision to see if she could fit in the small area under the sink. There was no other place she could hide.

Just about everyone called Woodman "Woodman" except Gran and sometimes Cain. Gran insisted on calling him by his Christian name. Cain used "Josiah" and "Woodman" interchangeably with no real rhyme or reason that Ginger could follow.
"Rumor is you're gonna marry Josiah someday," said Gran, her sixty-something blue eyes merry. "But what do you say?"
Ginger giggled self-consciously, thinking about her grandmother's question, something clenching in her twelve-year-old heart as she thought about marrying sensible Woodman and abandoning her wild feelings for his cousin, Cain.
"I don't know," she said, feeling her forehead crease in confusion.
"Or maybe you're thinkin' you want to marry…Cain," said Gran softly.
Cain, with his jet black hair and ice blue eyes, appeared like a vision before her, and Ginger's heart thumped faster. The way he'd run off to see Mary-Louise Walker this afternoon made her brown eyes spitting green with jealousy. The way he swaggered made her breath catch. Woodman was so predictable, so safe in comparison.
Then again, Woodman hadn't exactly been predictable this afternoon, had he? He'd surprised her with the gift and even more with his words. His body had been hard and warm when he'd held her, the embrace awakening something new and foreign within her. Something she wasn't sure she wanted. Something that didn't feel safe and even scared her a little bit. She pulled her fingers away from the charm bracelet and faced her Gran.
"What do I do if I love them both?"
Her grandmother's eyes, which had been mostly teasing, flinched, and her mouth tilted down in a sympathetic frown, which made her face seem so serious and sober.
"Choose, dollbaby," said her Gran. "Someday you'll have to choose."
The same feeling that she'd had in the barn, when Cain had yelled, "Jump to the one you love the most, darlin'!" flared up within her—a fierce refusal to love one cousin more than the other, to give up one in lieu of the other.
Choose? Her memories skated back through a dozen years on McHuid's Farm that had always included Cain and Woodman. When they were little children, they played together, swimming buck naked in the creek and racing over the green hills and pastures in impromptu games of tag. As the boys grew up, they started working with Cain's daddy, Klaus, who was her father's right-hand man, mucking out the stables and grooming the horses. She'd run down to the barn every day after her lessons to see them, working right along beside them until they were all covered in hay, dust and barn grime.
Though the Wolframs weren't generally included in the McHuid's active social life, the Woodmans were, which meant that in addition to seeing Cain and Woodman on the farm, she also saw Woodman at every holiday and birthday party…and they always managed to slip out unseen with some smuggled sweets for Cain.
They were the Three Musketeers of McHuid's Farm and Ginger knew both boys as well as she knew herself—Cain's smirking, hot-headed, impulsive ways, and Woodman's level-headed patience, caution and kindness. Regardless of their differences, she also knew that as the only children of twin sisters, Cain and Woodman were much closer than most cousins. Genetically speaking, they were half-brothers, and while they surely liked to tease and torture each other, they wouldn't hesitate to jump into front of a train to save the other's skin either.
In Ginger's mind, she envisioned them like two halves of the same coin that she held carefully in the palm of her hand.
She loved them both desperately.

No, her heart protested. Impossible.
"What if I can't?" she whispered, leaning back and resting her head on her grandmother's comforting shoulder.

2015, Jan: Black Ice was one of the most creative books that I have read. Britt, a upcoming senior in high school and her best friend, Korie made plans to go backpacking {not camping}. Before Britt went to go pick up her friend, she went to fill up her gas tank where she runs into a unrolling character that she absolutely despises despite his charms and looks because of how they ended their lives together. He wanted to get back with her but since she didn't, she squirms her way out of his grasp by lying which fate plays a fatefully black knight into her hands. As the friend head out, the weather groomed alongside the bad and as much as Korie loved to compete with Britt, she was growing weary of it. Within four days of their weary struggles: inner, personal, and social, life had the sneaky hand into this play.

I love YA novels. I admit, it was hard to get past the first page but before I knew it, I was on the 163 page of it. Laughing, tearing up, with a hint of a green monster hiding on my shoulders. Fitzpatrick has astonished me with this amazing novel and I believe that everyone should give it a shot.

2016: Jan: I still find this book fairly intriguing. When I first read the book, I never really understood the misogyny within the words of the book and how they pictured every girl in the book very helpless and frail. Dependable on men. It makes me slightly annoyed.

Maybe it is the feminist in me talking but I am just not happy about how she blatantly says that she always depended on men. Her father. Her older brother. Her ex-boyfriend. Now in the hands of a handsome stranger. Literally. That's what she says. 

"...for a minute there, I’d thought I was going to have to save myself. Instead, I’d wandered into the protective care of a sexy older man."

Supposedly to be in love with the handsome stranger that kidnapped her, well why are you thinking about some crazy shite head?

“And then my thoughts went where they always did. To Calvin.” 

Oh dear lord. Please help me now. I give this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars because the plot was good. The hate towards how Becca painted the women, that's what brought it down.

I am not a big paranormal person. Yeah, I like my supernatural characters here and there but I can't seem to get enough of vampires. Maybe it is the underlying factor of how arousing biting is. LOL! Yes, I just used that word but from my English class and reading Dracula, I remember that the piercing of fangs into skin is just an innuendo of sex. 

Yes, I just giggled there because I used education with my love for books. Heck yeah! Education power!

But Princess was amazing. I have no regrets of reading this book because of the fact that there was a tantalizing romance and you are going to fall in with Nadira and put Zac Cooper onto your book boyfriends list. 

That brings me to my next point, have you seen the shirt that is HABB (Husbands Against Book Boyfriends), yeahhhhhhh, try to take a stand against book lovers and their book boyfriends. ;) 

In all honesty, I thought that this book was going to drive me to fall in love with the supernatural even further and there is an idea within the book that is probably very provoking. I could not get enough of this book and when the next book is in my hands, I am definitely going to devour it. 

The antagonist in the book is creepy and I loved it! Plus, her brothers definitely make me swoon with their alpha male egos. 

So with Zac Cooper onto my book boyfriends list and in love with the concept behind this book, I have to give it a rough 4 out of 5 books. If you love the supernatural romance, this is a book for you.

Shadowhunters: "Bad Blood" (Ep. 6)

Genre: Young Adult

Have you guys checked out Clary, Izzy, Magnus, and Luke killing it with Taylor Swift's Bad Blood? If not, watch it under Harry Shum Jr. Facebook page! 

Of course, a happy late birthday to Izzy because she's the object of beautiful and action fierce. Can we ask for more? 

Cause baby, we got bad blood, you know it used to be mad love! Belt it with me! Okay, yes, I like to be stupid every now and then. ;) But I love me some Swifty. 

Anyways, this episode made me want to punch Jace in the face. As hot as an alpha male is, seeing it on the screen made me just gag and maybe give him a hug around his neck with my hands but hey, some people are into seeing it on the screen.

New character is introduced and a new connection? Weird, I have never knew this in the book so maybe I need to reread the books. Yet again. 

Oh my gosh, I have to say little Max is the cutest thing in the world! I can't handle how tiny he is compared to Alec and Izzy. But I also didn't picture him that tiny. Isn't he supposed to be 7 or 8? Or at least in that age range because he looks like he's 5 or 6. I get that they are going for the Lolita effect. But, the book... It's there for a reason.

Is Cassandra Clare even helping with the show? Do they know they are botching the show up slightly? Well, I guess botch would be a bit harsh because they do get some things right and they gave me Simon. He's hot. I say that every review of the show. Even better in this episode but you'll just have to watch it and find out why. 

Clary shows the book Clary as she is getting consumed by Jace. I cannot wait for reality to kick in... Well I guess, in some way, it did in this episode. I think I sniffled... Or straight up balled my eyes out because it was something that took my breath away.

"He never would have known about the Shadowworld if it wasn't for me."

That part actually broke my heart... But, I still have to rate this episode a 3.3 out of 5 stars. But hey, there's always next week to try to make the Shadowhunters better.

Recap: With word of Alec, Jace and Isabelle’s “extracurricular activities” with Clary reaching The Clave, a convoy is sent to observe the Lightwoods running the New York Institute. Once The Clave representative arrives, it is very clear how much trouble the Lightwoods are in.

The Boy (Movie Review)

Genre: Horror

Synopsis: 

A young American named Greta (Lauren Cohan) takes a job as a nanny for an 8-year-old boy in a remote English village. To her surprise, Greta learns that the child of her new employers is a life-size doll. They care for the doll as if it was human, which helps the couple to cope with the death of their own son 20 years earlier. When Greta violates a list of strict rules, a series of disturbing and inexplicable events bring her worst fears to life, leading her to believe that the doll is alive.

There are two things that I want to point out about this movie. 

1. I absolutely adore Lauren Cohan especially from The Walking Dead because who doesn't like zombie killing machine? 

2. I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate dolls. They creep me out with their vacant stares. It's almost like they are staring into your souls. Yeah... Nobody likes that. So when I know someone who loves and collects them, I back away very slowly. 

This movie was a mix of horror and romance. Who doesn't like that combination? Especially in the time of death, love is still in the damn air. Can you blame them? Lauren Cohan is an amazing actress and I don't know what I would do if she just left The Walking Dead. 

However... This movie reminded me a delightful mix of Annabelle and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I can honestly say that I wasn't disappointed in this movie. I was hiding behind my hands most of the time because I ran out of food to munch on when I nervous. I'm a nervous eater... Yikes.

The horrific storyline was fantastically put together from the creepy home to the strange people to the history. I almost wanted to cry and I practically did after watching this movie. I hate driving home alone at night. It truly terrifies me. But what am I going to do? I'm a horror movie buff. 

When the movie first started off, I got the vibe of the classic horror movie... Girl unknowingly goes into bad situation. Bad situation happens. Everyone dies except the girl. Oh yay. BORING. But this movie gave you a major twist in the head that it messed with you psychologically and ended up saving the entire film. Thank God. 

This movie was a solid 4 out of 5 stars but I am still debating whether to add it into my horror movie collection.

Falling for Hudson - Alexandria Bishop (Marlowe #2)

Oh my goodness... My love for this book is unreal. Well, literally. Unreal. I was not a big fan of Chloe and it took me a while to get through this book. I suppose that there is some love for Hudson other than the whole situation at the end. Maybe it was because I wasn't able to bond with the characters and more or less thrown into the story.

Eventually, you do warm up to Chloe... I mean, I did. She's absolutely heartbreaking and yet she is one of the strongest characters that I have met because she fights for what's hers.

Without giving any spoilers, I can easily say that there is a classic bitch, a mean girls posse, a heartbreaking heroine, and a handsome fella(s). You know what I mean? ;) 

But I did like the whole book regardless of insta-love scenarios. I'm not usually huge fan of them but I can say that I am not disappointed either.

There are definitely situations where you want to smack yourself in the head. Repeatedly. Quite hard, actually. But this book was a definitely a classic romance.

It was the classical story of boy meets girl and girl falls for another boy. Did I end up enjoying the story though the cliche remarks? Yes. Yes, I did, and I am not ashamed of it. With a solid 3 out of 5 stars, I can definitely recommend this for anyone that is a born romantic. 

This book is a standalone but please, I implore you to read the first book before diving into this one. Don't make my mistakes.

It was quiet in Austin. Almost too quiet. It makes Noelle quite unsettled especially after the adrenaline running through her veins after the last three encounters with murderers. Guns in her face. Maybe it's because she does''t have reason to go trigger finger happy. 

I want to learn how to shoot a gun. But from the Bonds, of course. Why would I want to learn from someone else?

In the previous books, you fell in love with Nonna and even the ever loving shite out of Gio. The flirting parrot. Nonna makes a bigger impression on you in this book because there are some shocking revelations. Your sides will hurt from this book. 

Noelle and Drake's love radiates from these pages and Emma Hart doesn't disappoint. This is a book that you need to 1-Click and love the ever loving shite out of this book. I am anticipating the other books of Holly Woods Files because I need more Noelle. More Drake. More Nonna. 

I sigh for Drake. Can I please keep him?

I wanted to cry somewhere in this book because of what happens but again, I was not surprised that I loved this book. I need more and more and more. So... Maybe I listened to Britney Spears before writing this review. A spectacular 5 out of 5 stars. 

Can I have more now, Emma? Please?
