Synopsis: She was the one who got away…
Ten years ago, Brent Nichols let the love of his life slip through his fingers. It’s his greatest regret, especially since she’s all but disappeared. But when the gorgeous and captivating woman walks into his life unexpectedly, he’s determined to win her back. Whatever it takes, he won’t make the same mistake twice.
Easier said than done…
Shannon Paige has hardened her heart to the man she was once engaged to be married to. After the way he left, and after the hell she’s been through with her checkered family, there’s no way she’s letting him into her life again. The problem is, the second she sees him, he’s more handsome and charming than before. And she’s torn between wanting to fight with him and wanting to sleep with him -- Maybe both. Soon they fall into each other’s arms, consumed with a desire that burns through the years.
But if these two fiery lovers are going to have a real second chance at this kind of intense, passionate, bone-deep love, he’ll have to give her his whole heart, and she’ll have to give up all the secrets from her messy past.
And that messy past is about to spill over into her carefully constructed present…
Yawn... The same thing in romance books is being overplayed. Let me break this down for you.
Long lost loves being reunited once again? Bad blood in between them. Fatal attraction will be the death of them in the romance department
There's hatred within these pages and it's not coming from me. Well most of it wasn't. The resentment from the characters towards the other really poured off the pages. Though, I felt an undeniable attraction between the characters. You'll have to excuse me while I fan myself from all of the emotions I feel.
I swear, I didn't ugly cry in this book but I was on the verge of it. The messed up world of the characters have you rooting for them but also against them as well. You'll understand why if you read this book. I don't know if I will continue the series but we will have to see because I rolled my eyes more than I did enjoy it. I don't know how to put it into words of how I felt about the entire book. I read through it completely so it wasn't a complete DO NOT FINISH but rather a sad, sad, sad try at a second chance romance. Sure, the tone was set in the prologue so we know where they stand.
To be honest, I was drawn in with the prologue and then Blakely lost me. Goddamn. I don't know whether it was because it was moving too slow but I didn't know how I felt... It was hot. Sure. It was steamy. Sure. It was slow and underdeveloped? Yes. Yes. That is the word that I was looking for.
Officially, I will rate this a 3 out of 5 stars. I was more or less wanting to rate this a 2 out of 5 stars but that is usually saved for my DNF's. However, this book was an interesting look of HEA's and second romance tropes.
Blog you later, awesome book nerds.
